it's actually a german company that holds the rights to mp3, and it's nothing to
do with laws per-se, more along othe lines of royalties.

You need the xmms-mp3 plugin from
http://rpm.livna.org
Setting up yum/up2date to use fedora.us and
livna.org yields a multitude
of benefits. Sane U.S. laws would be better, but don't hold your
breath...
