Possible? Of course, all the source code is available. :-)
Available? I haven't done it, but I can see a possible way to do so.
The screensaver is just a program. So, it should be possible to
replace the code that displays images, and instead start a process
that continuously cycles a video player. Getting out of the loop
would be the issue, I think. The screensaver could retain keystroke
capture, and when it catches a keystroke, kill the video player, and
continue on with the recovery of the screen.
This sounds easy enough that if you search the web, you should find
someone who has done it already.

So I was curious and looked a little more, and found this old link. If
you are using X, it should still work, though I haven't tried it. I
don't bother with screensavers, but I might try this. I saw that
someone asked if a webcam could be used as a source for the
screensaver, too, which would be kind of neat.
