Since you have a static IP address, then
you need to populate /etc/resolv.conf.
Personally, I have always done that by hand
as I have no faith in the net tools.
Can you populate you resolv.conf manually
and see if that works?
I have done that but as soon as I do a "service network restart" it is
blanked again.
It is being done by the Nework Manager - that beastly piece of
unmentionable matter.
