Unexpected bios behavior??? due to connection of an external drive.
by JD
On this old dell (dual pentium), connecting the external
drive (a seagate 2TB external 2.5" "backup plus" drive.
When I got the drive, I connected it after booting into fedora.
Partition 1 contained some windows related stuff for backup.
I backed it up to another drive.
I partitioned the drive to two partitions only.
Partition 1 is the entire drive - minus 8GB).
Partition 2 is 8GB swap partition.
I formatted partition 2 ext4.
So far, so good.
Now, if I power up with this external drive connected (usb3),
all I get is a cursor at upper left corner.
If I disconnect the drive, reboot, then I get the Fedora boot menu,
almost instantly.
Before I select which kernel to boot, I connect this external drive
and boot the latest kernel.
All is well.
So, what has remained on the external drive to cause bios
to hang like that?
This is the partition info:

F21 - SSH slow at some things
by Robert Moskowitz
This is really a problem that I have had since I installed F21. It was
a clean install, not an update.
Anyway, when I connect to various servers that are setup for user/paswd
login, it is a while before I see the password prompt.
After working on the system for a while, the session is suddenly
unresponsive. I can ping the destination, but nothing in the ssh
session. Usually after some time (more than a minute) the session
resumes responding.
If I leave a session connected and move away from it, eventually I get a
"Write failed: Broken pipe"
All the systems I am connecting to are on other networks, so I am going
through a firewall that permits my ssh connections.
Any hints where to look? Wireshark is not showing me anything, but I
may just be using the wrong filters.

kernel-core-3.18.9-200.fc21.x86_64 fails to boot
by Patrick O'Callaghan
Installed the latest stable kernel using yum. On booting, a few seconds
after the splash screen, I get a solitary blinking cursor.
Rebooting with the previous version (3.18.8-201) works fine.
Video is an Nvidia GT630 using the kmod-nvidia driver.

Question about TB
by JD
Hi all TB users,
I have 2 gmail accounts.
One for mailing lists, online transactions, ...etc,
and one for family members to send me email to.
On the account used for family, I send emails to someone,
and then I check in the Sent folder.
I do not see the message I just sent.
So thought perhaps I deleted the message from the Sent folder
by accidental mistake.
So, I check the trash folder. Not there. I only empty the trash
folder about once in a blue moon, just in case I deleted something
by mistake. The message I just sent is not there either.
This is the listing of the directory

unlock screen?
by Niels Weber
Hi,
I'm experimenting around with blueproximity (on F21). The default
commands it uses to lock and unlock the screen use the
gnome-screensaver-command tool, that doesn't exist any more. I already
found out that I can lock the screen by sending a dbus command:
dbus-send --type=method_call --dest=org.gnome.ScreenSaver
/org/gnome/ScreenSaver org.gnome.ScreenSaver.Lock
But there doesn't seem to be anything for unlocking the screen?
("gnome-screensaver-command -d")
Is there any way that I missed so far? Or is it simply not possible?
Thanks,
Niels

Yum suggestion
by Timothy Murphy
Yum tells me the repos where it fails to find a package,
but not those where it succeeds.
It would be nice to know who around the world
I should be grateful to.

Hi Chris,
I send you again this message
I followed your suggestion:
I tried efibootmgr -v
and I got this output:
*"efibootmgr: EFI variables are not supported on this system."*
because this message I though the installation is not good and found this

I have not so much experience so I would ask you what I can do..
....perhaps it is enough to install the efivars kernel module. ?
Thank you

P.S. I cannot send you the content of dmesg.

but I can find inside it if you say me what to look for.
