tab completion FC 21
by Stephen Davies
I have just upgraded a box from fc20 to fc21 using fedup and tab completion
has gone bezerk.
I have erased the bash-completion package but the weird behaviour continues.
It is even guessing/remembering passwords.
In most cases, hitting tab during command entry does nothing. In others
(randomly so far as I can see) it pops up a list of words (including spelling
errors).
Even worse is when I try to type a path eg /usr/local/bin/foo, it puts spaces
between each component and I have to backspace to remove them.
How can I really get rid of this rubbish and return to the good old, simple
completion?
Cheers and thanks,
Stephen

Issue with Fedora21 "settings" after a power failure in the middle of an update.
by Eliezer Croitoru
Hey,
I am unsure how to even look at the system now.
I have installed a Fedora 21 Gnome Desktop on a USB disk and while
updating+upgrading the system from the basic state (57X packages) there
was a power failure.
After turning on the PC I have tried to turn it on it was fine and booted.
I did not tried to "verify" what happen but it was in the middle of "yum
update" so I tried to complete the transaction using yum.. whatever the
command was.
Now the system is after an undo but "settings" menu would not start.
It would show the basic icon and text on the top bar for couple seconds
and then will vanish and even if I am waiting 20 minutes it's still not
starting.
Now I want if possible to find what is the issue and maybe fix it.
I need your help and recommendations.
Thanks,
Eliezer

'top' fails: 'xterm-256color': unknown terminal type
by Stuart McGraw
When I try to run 'top' on the Fedora 21 system I am
installing I get the error:
'xterm-256color': unknown terminal type
'TERM=xterm top' also fails:
'xterm': unknown terminal type.
and fails the same way no matter what the terminal type is
set to. I don't have a TERMIFO_DIRS env variable set nor
a ~/.terminfo/ directory. Same thing also happens when I
login as a newly created user.
/usr/share/terminfo looks normal and all the files and
directories therein are world-readable.
After reading a lot of manpages I came across 'toe' which
according to 'man toe'
"lists all available terminal types by primary name
with descriptions."
In my case, 'toe' lists nothing. However, 'toe -as'
"-a: report on all of the terminal databases which
ncurses would search, rather than only the first one
that it finds"
says,
--> /etc/terminfo
----> /usr/share/terminfo
--*-: Eterm Eterm with xterm-style color...
--*-: Eterm-256color Eterm with xterm 256-colors
--*-: Eterm-88color Eterm with 88 colors
--*-: ansi ansi/pc-term compatible with...
--*-: aterm AfterStep terminal
and continues with list of everything in /usr/share/-
terminfo/. I don't know what the "--*-" text means.
I tried replacing /etc/terminfo with a symlink to
/usr/share/terminfo but that made no difference.
Anyone have a clue about what is going on here?

Roaming email broke with update to fedora 21
by David Highley
Description of the setup; remote access for email via web server with
squirrelmail and dovecot. Configured to use imap port 993 and smtp tls.
Email resides on another internal email server. This has been working
for many years and was working on fedora 20. After new install of web
server to fedora 21 and an update to the email server to fedora 21 the
roaming email access has been broken; Error connecting to IMAP server:
tls://mail. 0 :
Have verified the web server can connect to the email server:
openssl s_client -connect imap.example.com:993
openssl s_client -connect imap.example.com:143 -starttls imap
With the two commands above we get a connect for port 993 and for port
143 we are able to login and find the email folder.
Software versions are:
sendmail-8.14.9-5.fc21.x86_64
dovecot-2.2.15-2.fc21.x86_64
squirrelmail-1.4.22-15.fc21.noarch
The squirrelmail config_local.php file looks like this:
<?php

The issue seems to be the web server which is the email client in this
configuration. What are we missing?

How to configure the firewall for VPN PPP connections?
by Paul Smith
Dear All,
How should one configure the firewall in order to be able to connect
from my machine (Fedora 21) to another machine (MS Windows) via VPN
PPP? Perhaps, after some updates, the possibility of establishing such
a VPN PPP has become blocked by the firewall.
Thanks in advance,
Paul

cpio failing during update
by Suvayu Ali
Hi,
While updating today, cpio failed on me randomly, twice! I see errors
like this:
Scriptlet output:
1 error: unpacking of archive failed on file /usr/share/doc/ffmpeg/COPYING.LGPLv3;54d881f2: cpio: open
2 error: ffmpeg-2.4.6-2.fc21.x86_64: install failed
Scriptlet output:
1 error: unpacking of archive failed on file /usr/src/kernels/3.18.5-201.fc21.x86_64/arch/arm/mach-mv78xx0/Kconfig;54d8814e: cpio: open
2 error: kernel-devel-3.18.5-201.fc21.x86_64: install failed
When I tried updating those two packages again, they succeeded. I am
wondering if there is a problem that needs fixing, or is this just
chance.
Thanks for any thoughts,

Suvayu
