Trying to install a Windows 8.1 guest under KVM

I am trying to install a Windows 8.1 guest using KVM. I'd like to use
virtio for network and disk, but I can't seem to find virtio drivers
that windows 8.1 actually recognizes. Under RHEL 7, it would be the
virtio-win package. No such package seems to exist for F21.
I downloaded the iso from
http://alt.fedoraproject.org/pub/alt/virtio-win/latest/images/ and
made it available to the win8.1 installer as an IDE CD, it sees them.
But when I tell win8.1 to use them, it says "did not find any drivers"
and it still can't see the virtio disk.
What am I doing wrong?
I'll gladly RTFM, but I've looked through the F21 installation and
system administrator's guide at http://docs.fedoraproject.org/ and I
don't see a word about virtualization. If anyone can point me to the
right FM to R, I'll go!
Thanks!
Thomas

dvd read speed
by JD
Hi,
is there a way to force dvd to spin faster when backing it up?
Currently I see only about 4 megabytes/s read speed.
The drive is ata2.00: ATAPI: Optiarc DVD+/-RW AD-7930H, 100A, max UDMA/100
If there is no way, guess I will have to look for a faster drive.

Need old live CDs
by Ian Pilcher
I'm trying to track down a problem with configuring KDE mouse actions.
Since the issue only occurs when trying to set things up, I seem to have
gone quite a few releases without noticing it.
In fact, the problem seems to go back at least as far as Fedora 18,
which is the oldest KDE live CD on dl.fedoraproject.org.
Is there an archive of older live CD ISOs somewhere?

NV or AMD gfx for 4k?
by Dan Irwin
So my 2013 dell can't quite drive my new 4k display. It's missing DP1.2 on
the onboard intel gfx.
(Well, actually, I can get it into 4k mode by toying with xrandr, but it
won't drive a second sub-hd display i have laying about)
I am personally leaning towards nvidia, because it's worked so well in the
past on linux. Like 10+ years ago...
What is the current state of play? Who has the most stable drivers, either
proprietary or in kernel?
Thanks.
Dan.

What is Jabber?
by Stephen Morris
Can someone tell what Jabber is and why is suddenly started running for
the first time since the upgrade to F21, and why when it starts up it is
prompting for a password and what password I should give it when it
won't accept mine and it won't accept no password at all?

Steve

qmake-qt5 and qmake from qt5-qtbase-devel behaves differently on F21
by "Paul-Erik Törrönen"
I noticed the following when compiling a qt5-based application.
qt5-qtbase-devel provides both /usr/bin/qmake-qt5 and
/usr/lib64/qt5/bin/qmake.
These are both the same file, but because they are located in different
directories, they behave differently (or rather one works, the other
doesn't).
It seems that the binary uses dirname to locate where the rest of
qt5-related files are located. This is apparent when I run qmake-qt5 in
debug-mode (-d):
DEBUG 1: visiting file /usr/lib64/qt5/mkspecs/features/qt_config.prf
DEBUG 1: /usr/lib64/qt5/mkspecs/features/qt_config.prf: entering block
DEBUG 1: /usr/lib64/qt5/mkspecs/features/qt_config.prf:4: QMAKE_QT_CONFIG
:= /usr/bin/mkspecs/qconfig.pri
DEBUG 1: /usr/lib64/qt5/mkspecs/features/qt_config.prf:5: NOT
DEBUG 1: /usr/lib64/qt5/mkspecs/features/qt_config.prf:5: evaluating test
function "exists"
DEBUG 1: /usr/lib64/qt5/mkspecs/features/qt_config.prf:5: calling built-in
exists(/usr/bin/mkspecs/qconfig.pri)
DEBUG 1: /usr/lib64/qt5/mkspecs/features/qt_config.prf:5: test function
returned false
....
DEBUG 1: /usr/lib64/qt5/mkspecs/features/qt_config.prf:6: calling built-in
debug(1, "Cannot load qconfig.pri!")
DEBUG 1: Project DEBUG: Cannot load qconfig.pri!
As a result, the execution fails, as it does not find any components:
$ qmake-qt5/usr/lib64/qt5/bin/qmake
Project ERROR: Unknown module(s) in QT: core gui network svg printsupport
concurrent webkitwidgets webkit
If, however I run the /usr/lib64/qt5/bin/qmake (which is used by the other
qt5-* packages), the base directory is correct, and the qmake exits
succesfully.

I now have an issue, many days now, not sure when it started..

instance, I click REPLY, and 2 reply windows open. other times it does
similar actions, like a double-click, but I KNOW I am not, and I even
turned down the double-click timing.. running fed 21 AMD_64..
