fc20 with full updates: unable to pair with wifi router
by Luke Nath
My wifi interface is not managed by NetworkManager.
I start wpa_supplicant manually.
The full verbose output of wpa_supplicant below tells why
it did not connect, at least that's the only clue I have.
Strangely, windows has no problem connecting to the wireless router.
I would appreciate ideas as to why my fc20 cannot associate with my router.
The values I have used in wpa_supplicant.conf are identical to those I used in windows.
network={
bssid=xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx

The wpa_supplicant.log output for the attempted connection:

unreportable kernel oops / bluetooth
by SternData
I get kerneloops reports that I can't pass on because the kernel is
tained by the virtualbox drivers.
The oops occurs when a previously paired bluetooth device becomes
discoverable. My F20 systems sees the device and connects, then
disconnects, then the oops occurs. If I put the device back into
discoverable mode, I can use the bluetooth preference panel to connect
manually.
Any suggestions about how to debug/fix this?

Doing a bit of c++ compiling
by Robert Moskowitz
OK, in terms of compiling ANYTHING, I am at best a hack. I don't
believe I have any compile stuff on this system, as it was a base
notebook install. But here I am needing one LITTLE c++ piece of code
compiled. You can find it in:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Birthday_attack
I need to generate some bit lengths and probablities not in their
table. So...
Can someone point me to a 'simple' howto to install needed components so
I can build birthday binary?

Re: system-config-services
by Patrick Dupre
Hello,
I am lost again!!!
I cannot open the port:
5900/tcp closed vnc
5901/tcp closed vnc-1
5902/tcp closed vnc-2
5903/tcp closed vnc-3
or
from localhost:
5900/tcp closed vnc
5901/tcp filtered vnc-1
5902/tcp closed vnc-2
5903/tcp closed vnc-3
while
Using firewall-config, I check vncserver bot permanent and runtime,
Do I need to do something else?
systemctl status vncserver
vncserver.service
Loaded: not-found (Reason: No such file or directory)
Active: inactive (dead)
systemctl start vncserver
Failed to issue method call: Unit vncserver.service failed to load: No such file or directory.
one the server, I did vncserver and open :1
Both machines are on the same network
vncviewer fails error 111 (unable to connect to socket)
remmina-vnc fails too (it ass the ssh password and sleep!)
It looks like to that I am not able to reopen this port, while it has works!!!!!
I am missing one point:
Both dbus.service and .socket are active without error
Sorry for my incompetence!

I recently moved to remmina with the vnc puggin.
I do not use vncviewer. This only work for a LAN (no firewall).
Good luck

Yes, I think so.
It is running, but it does not report any alert!

Re: remmina

OK, it seems correct.
However, I am may be not entirely.
For example, if a open a new session, let say :1
I can connect, but then after a while the session is closed is a remain
inactive; In theory I should be able to give my password to restart the
session like if I was in front of the machine. But this is just not possible
The box for the passward takes 1 character and erase it.
Then I can never kill the session.
I tried to kill and restart, remove the .vnc directory, etc...
But never I can reconnect or kill the session.
I can only create a new one with vncserver and connect in :2
and again I have to iterate, it looks like for ever
I cannot find an help for remmina, however, it may be a vnc issue
Thank for your help

A new Thinkpad X240 touchpad issue
by Steve Underwood
Hi,
I just rebooted my Thinkpad X240 for the first time in a few weeks, and
now clicking the touchpad doesn't behave properly. I assume a yum update
since the last reboot has changed something, and not in a good way. If I
click the edge of the pad I get the correct left/middle/right button
kind of behaviour, but if I click in the middle of the pad I get quirky
results. I used to get the effect of a left mouse button.
Is this a regression, or has something purposefully changed which means
I need to alter the xorg configuration files?
Regards,
Steve

Small Home server - HDD/SDD
by Javier Perez
HI
I have a small home server (photos, videos, music) that is reaching full
capacity.
It is a 750GB, partitioned as a 50G OS and 700G Data + swap
The mobo, an Intel DG31PR mobo has 1 PATA and 4 SATA ports (3GB/s).
Currently it is running FC20, having been continuously upgraded from almost
Fedora 1 I think
I got a 2TB WD red HDD for it.
My plan is to put the OS on a USB stick ( San Disk Low Profile 64GB
SDCZ33-064G-B35 ) and use the whole 2TB for Data. I'd rather not have a
PATA SDD, and I do not want to lose one of the SATA ports. Eventually I
want to have a system with 4 HDDs, in a Raid 1+0 configuration to prevent
data loss.
I have some questions.
1. I could use ext4 on all HDDs eventually. But I wonder, can I use ZFS?
Specially I would like to have the ability to expand the single HDD into a
Raid once I get the second HDD as painlessly as possible. If I use ext4 I
guess I will have to backup/create raid system/reformat/restore the data. I
have the idea that zfs only needs to be aware that there is a new drive and
it will expand the filesystem accordingly. I'd rather not use LVM. I was
burned by it once.
2. Is the USB OS ok? I do not feel I am losing that much, after all, it is
a system that will be mostly on at home.
3.Should I add hibernation to it? How quickly will it come back from
hibernation if someone requests data?
Is there anything I should know I am not taking into consideration?
Thanks!
JP

Trouble starting webex in F20
by Chris Kottaridis
I have an F19 and an F20 host and when I try to start a webex on the F20
host it doesn't work right. It works fine on the F19 machine.
The symptom is that when I start the webex in F20 it sends up a message
about wanting to run an applet and I tell it yes it's OK to run the
applet. That doesn't come up on the F19 host. On the F19 the icedtea
icon pops up for a short time and then I get connected. I don't see the
icedtea icon pop up in F20.
I did notice that icedtea is at 1.5 in F20, but at 1.4 for F19 and there
is some policy control added in 1.5. I set the policy to allow all
applets to do everything for the time being in the
.config/icedtea-web/security/java.policy file which the icedtea-web man
page says is the default policy file.
Any ideas on what the difference might be between F19 and F20 would be
appreciated or pointer to a different group that could help.
Sorry that I only have rather high level usage info, but so far other
then this issue with starting a webex everything seems OK that I have
tried so far.
Thanks
Chris Kottaridis
