Damage control -
by Bob Goodwin
Problem: I installed "/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-monitor.conf" and now
can't boot. I need to delete the file.
I can boot with the F-19 Live disc that I installed from but I don't
know how to access the file to delete it. I don't want to redo the
install since I've done most of the configuration.
Some assistance appreciated.

Somtimes we techinicians give advice based on an ideal world. :-) But on
the real world disabling IPv6 everywhere is the *right* thing to do for
many companies. if you don't have the need, don't have the knowledge and
your hardware/software doesn't support it well, IPv6 is not only
overhead with no added value but also may present a significant security
risk. Just like you should disable any system service (specially network
services) that you don't need to reduce a hacker attack surface on your
network and servers.
-----Original Message-----
Hi Fernando,
I completely agree that one should minimize any attack surface, no doubt about that!
And if you (!) don't want to use v6, fine.
But when you write "But on the real world disabling IPv6 everywhere is the right thing to do"
I strongly disagree. There might okay for you, but at least in the apnic/ripe area the RIR's has run out, and providers can only obtain _once_ a final block of addresses. And, as I said, signals start to come from people ONLY getting an V6 address from their providers.
But even in the ARIN-area (years to go from depletion), USA-administration indicates that any peers/suppliers must be able to handle V6.
Hence my plea just to think twice before advising to disable v6 altogether.
In certain circumstances it might alleviate some symptoms, but the cure should be somewhere else, not?

PulseAudio in restricted X environment
by Eric Viseur
Hi,
I'm currently working on a virtualization project using F18. One of the
use cases is booting on the multi-user systemd target, then starting the
Spice client in a very restricted X environment by simply issuing
*$ xinit /usr/bin/spicec (some parameters)*
Everything works fine, except the sound : as I don't start a complete GDM
in this boot scenario, PulseAudio isn't loaded. I thus tried to start
PulseAudio manually by issuing :
*$ start-pulseaudio-x11*
before starting xinit with the same user, but it doesn't work either.
After testing a *$ pacat /dev/urandom* from the host on Fedora
Virtualization team's advice, it turns out PA doesn't work at all.
*So, here is my question : how to start PulseAudio correctly in such a
setup (multi-user.target then xinit) ?*
Please note that if I connect to the VM from a complete GDM in the
graphical systemd target, everything works fine.
Thank you for your attention !

Eric Viseur

Seahorse questions
by Joachim Backes
Dear F19 users,
First question:
---------------
Running seahorse in F19 and seeing two entries in the *Passwords* section:
1. Some nameless entry (as first)
2. The entry "Default Keyring"
My question: Meaning of the first nameless entry?
2. Second question:
-------------------
Making Secure Shell entries with seahorse.
The partner hosts:
a. Ubuntu: no problem with following ssh's
b. Scientific linux: no problem too with following ssh's
c. Fedora19: Each time I ssh to the remote, the login password
is prompted for. (This did not happen until 2 days ago).
I don't understand case c.
Kind regards
Joachim Backes

ABI compliance checker on Fedora 19
by Eduardo Bortolini
I am trying to install "ABI compliance checker" on Fedora 19. I followed
the steps from: "
http://ispras.linuxbase.org/index.php/ABI_compliance_checker".
I have installed all requirements indicated. After install I typed:
abi-compliance-checker -test
It tries to compile, but this error appears: "ERROR: can't compile
header(s)". Detailed bellow:
[eduardo@localhost teste_abi]$ abi-compliance-checker -test
Using GCC 4.8.1 (x86_64-redhat-linux)
verifying detectable C library changes
preparation, please wait ...
Using GCC 4.8.1 (x86_64-redhat-linux)
checking header(s) 1.0 ...
Using C++ compatibility mode
ERROR: can't compile header(s)
ERROR: analysis has failed
I tried to install rmp from here:
http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=431481
but same error occurred, what looks that the error is in my system.
Anybody experienced something like this?

SQL Issue
by mike
I did a test install of Fedora 19 on a spare machine and discovered that
MySQL is no longer part of the Distro being replaced by MariaDB.
Has anyone tried to run WordPress in conjunction with MariaDB and if so
any problems.
Thanks

networking - fail2ban will not start on some installs (x64)
by Cristian Sava
On installs where iface reported by "route" command is not the same with
ifcfg-iface (pxpy instead of enpxsy or ethx) fail2ban will not start.
Does not matter if biosdevname=0 or net.ifnames=0 on the kernel line.
Tested this on real hardware and on VirualBox too.
>From /var/log/messages:
fail2ban-client[2804]: ERROR Directory /var/run/fail2ban exists but not accessible for writing
Fail2ban is ok on any other install.

fedup - the good and the bad
by Timothy Murphy
I've used fedup on 4 very different machines,
and it has worked faultlessly.
My only gripe is the complete silence
during hours of processing.
Is there any reason why something -
if even just a dot every minute or so -
should not appear on the screen?
Of course an estimate of the expected duration
would be even more helpful,
or just a statement of how many packages have been processed,
out of how many in total.
