Transferring files to/from Android phone
by Klaus-Peter Schrage
This topic has been discussed several times before. With the recent
update to KDE 4.10.1, Fedora (KDE) seems to be able to do this:
Now, from Dolphin I can browse my phone as an "MTP-device", the internal
memory as well as the SD-card.

F-18 CDROM problem -
by Bob Goodwin
I installed an "optical drive" in this F-18/64 XFCE computer and it is
apparently recognized by several applications however I don't see an
icon come up on the desktop when I put a cdrom in the drive. The same
disk works as expected in a similar F-18 computer.
When I put the disk in the drive the light flickers for a while and then
stops, no icon appears, and it is reluctant to eject.
[bobg@box10 ~]$ ll /dev/sg1
crw-rw----+ 1 root cdrom 21, 1 Mar 16 2013 /dev/sg1
I don't know how to troubleshoot this so any help is appreciated.

vim fails on F18 x64
by Gregory P. Ennis
Everyone,
I have just installed two machines with F18x64, and am having a problem
with vim. When I try to execute the software I get
root@CoBl ~]# vim
Vim: Caught deadly signal SEGV
Vim: Finished.
Segmentation fault (core dumped)
Have any of you developed a work around for this yet?
Thanks,

LiveCD with Samsung F2FS ??
by Fernando Cassia
Until now I' ve been using Linux Live USB creator (on windows) to
create pen drives out of Fedora livecd images
http://www.linuxliveusb.com/
...mainly because I like its startup menu which allows to select
between normal LiveCD boot and ' persistant mode' which allows one to
save files to the pen drive' s ' desktop' folder and changes (ie
firefox addons) are preserved between reboots.
It accomplishes this by setting a rw drive based on a so-called 'casper file'
http://www.linuxliveusb.com/en/help/faq/persistence/67-what-is-persistence
but for ' technical reasons' -according to the devs- a 'casper file'
cannot be bigger than 4GB.
With 32GB pen drives now within the affordability realm (64gb a little
less so), you'd understand it's a bit silly to limit the 'persistant
mode' to 4GB of space.
So, with developments like Samsung's F2FS file system...
Samsung creates Flash-friendly open source file system F2FS
http://www.techspot.com/news/50428-samsung-creates-flash-friendly-open-so...
... and with apparently the last few f2fs improvements having made it
to the 3.9 kernel
http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=MTMxMTU
So, any chance of getting rid of 'casper' and trade it for a fully RW
F2FS partition on the pen drive (as big as the pen drive allows) ?
I wonder if Fedora rawhide already includes F2FS support?.
Ideally, I'd just want ANY functional Linux & XFCE distro I can burn
on a big pen drive with full RW support using F2FS... (could be a
LiveCD with 'persistant partition' done with F2FS).
Thoughts? Comments? -TIA

XFce configuration
by Max Pyziur
Greetings,
Two non-fatal/small issues relating to XFce.
1 - How do you configure a shortcut key to bring up the Applications Menu?
I found some online help, but that didn't work.
2 - On boot-up, after the scrolling of service messages, and before the
appearance of the login screen, there was a small, rotating circle, the
equivalent of the spinning hourglass in Windows and other OS's and
applications.
In my F18 installations, it doesn't appear. Is there a way to remedy this?
Thank you.
