Fedora 18 vgaswitcheroo
by carachi diego
Ciao a tutti,
ho installato Fedora 18 e volevo disabilitare la scheda video NVIDIA per
ottimizzare il consumo della batteria ma non mi trova il file! Questo e il
risultato:
cat /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch
cat: /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch: No such file or directory
Come posso fare?
Grazie

Turbo Boost on Core i
by Gordan Bobic
With the latest 3.7.5-201 kernel, I see this in dmesg:
p4-clockmod: Warning: EST-capable CPU detected. The acpi-cpufreq module
offers voltage scaling in addition to frequency scaling. You should use
that instead of p4-clockmod, if possible.
It looks like p4-clockmod is built into the kernel, and there is no
acpi-cpufreq module in /lib/modules/.
I'm guessing this may be related to TurboBoost apparently not working.
Has anybody got any ideas on how to:
1) Disable p4-clockmod
2) Force-enable acpi-cpufreq if it is built into the kernel as well
3) Disable power management and get it to work at nominal speed with TB
enabled
Many thanks.

Systemd and Custom Early Init Script
by Gordan Bobic
I'm a not quite up to speed on systemd, so I'm hoping somebody here
might point me in the right direction WRT the Fedora systemd init
process flow.
I'm trying to work around bug 529153:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=529153
The closest to a workable solution I have come up with is:
echo -n 0000:00:1c.0:pcie04 > /sys/bus/pci_express/drivers/pciehp/unbind
So I need this to run as early as possible during the init sequence, as
soon as /sys is mounted.
Before/after which services should this be done?

FC18 install - doesn't offer other OS on the drive
by Bill Davidsen
I'll see if a different subject, devoid of anything but the question, brings a
response. When I installed FC18 on a drive with FC17 and XP the installer didn't
offer an option to boot those OS as alternatives.
Is this a bug or by design.

Package groups: yum vs. rpm
by Max Pyziur
Greetings,
When you run the command "rpm -qi <somepackagename>"
there is a "Group: <somegroupname>" line.
That group name doesn't coincide with the groups that are listed when
running "yum groups list"
Are these two bits of metadata related?
Much thanks,
Max Pyziur

Fedora 18 and Bug 529153
by Gordan Bobic
Hi,
I'm trying to install F18 and I am falling foul of bug 529153. The
problem is to bad on my EVGA SR2 that the installer pretty much locks
up. If I boot with "noapic noacpi nosmp" I can get the installer to
complete most of the time, and with the same options I can get the
machine to boot, but the console is unusable, and the frame buffer based
Xorg flickers badly enough that it would be a serious health hazard for
anyone suffering from epilepsy.
I have tried to find a way to disable pciehp, but there appears to be no
kernel option for it. It is built into the kernel so it cannot be rmmod-ed.
I don't particularly care about hotplug (nor do I imaging most Fedora
users do, yet this has been built into the kernels since at leat F11 for
some unfathomable reason, and that is how far back the mentioned bug
report goes).
I got the latest kernel kernel-3.7.5-201.fc18.src.rpm and doctored it to
remove CONFIG_HOTPLUG_PCI, more or less achieved by:
cat config-generic.orig | \
sed -e 's/^\(CONFIG_HOTPLUG_PCI_.*\)=.*/# \1 is not set/'
Built it on RHEL6 (because I cannot get a F18 box up and running)
without debuginfo, tools, and signing, installed that, and F18's systemd
then just gets stuck at boot time when it's supposed to get Xorg up and
running. Keyboard seems to be responding (numlock works) but no response
from any keys, looks like it gets stuck somewhere before it starts up
the VTs.
Has anybody come up with a viable workaround for this that results in a
usable system?
Gordan
