Fixing yum performance
by Christopher Svanefalk
A recurring problem I have had for several Fedora releases now is that Yum
over time becomes slower and slower as more packages are installed. This is
of course to be expected due to the DB growing, but in my case Yum has now
become so slow that it is almost unusable. Normally, it takes 2-3 minutes
just to install a single package. most of the time, this latency will take
place between yum first being invoked, and the part where I am asked to
accept that the packages are downloaded and installed. It thus seems to be
a DB issue.
Is there any way to fix this??

mount usb camera as a disk
by Gergely Buday
Hi,
fedora did not automount my camera. So I tried lsusb, which has found
it, but even in verbose mode it did not tell me any data that can be
fed to mount. How can I mount then my camera?
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 04b0:031d Nikon Corp.
was the relevant line in lsusb output.

Flash problem in Fedora 15
by Michael Eager
Hi --
I have the latest version of flash-plugin-11.2.202.236 installed.
When I have a web page open in Firefox that has a flash window,
this window shows up underneath other web pages and on different
screens.
Is anyone else seeing this problem? Anyone got a fix?

Calling FC 16 Virtualization experts!
by Jack Craig
Hi FC folks,
I am setting up a FC 16 workstation and need a VM to load XP (sic) for
outlook access.
Looking at virtualization options.
I find the default of qemu has worked for me before, but the chart of
options suggests the qemu performance isn't that great.
conversely, XEN & KVM look like good options.
Comments as to pro/cons?
TIA, jackc...

F17: iwl3945 + EAP-PEAP/MSCHAPv2 (eduroam) == random disconnects
by Pedro Francisco
I have random disconnects when connecting to an ESS (eduroam) using
EAP-PEAP/MSCHAPv2 and iwl3945.
I don't know exactly what the cause is, so I'm asking here.
Here's a snippet from the output of wpa_cli (removed lines, connection
drops randomly, can hold >30 minutes working fine):
(connection managed by NetworkManager)
<3>CTRL-EVENT-DISCONNECTED bssid=b8:62:1f:54:c2:02 reason=2
<3>CTRL-EVENT-DISCONNECTED bssid=00:00:00:00:00:00 reason=3
<3>CTRL-EVENT-DISCONNECTED bssid=00:1f:ca:d2:20:0e reason=10
<3>CTRL-EVENT-EAP-STARTED EAP authentication started
<3>CTRL-EVENT-EAP-FAILURE EAP authentication failed
<3>CTRL-EVENT-DISCONNECTED bssid=00:00:00:00:00:00 reason=3
<3>CTRL-EVENT-DISCONNECTED bssid=00:00:00:00:00:00 reason=3
<3>CTRL-EVENT-DISCONNECTED bssid=b8:62:1f:54:c2:02 reason=10
<3>CTRL-EVENT-DISCONNECTED bssid=00:0f:24:6d:69:0f reason=2
<3>CTRL-EVENT-DISCONNECTED bssid=00:0e:d7:09:57:01 reason=2
<3>CTRL-EVENT-DISCONNECTED bssid=00:00:00:00:00:00 reason=3
<3>CTRL-EVENT-DISCONNECTED bssid=00:1f:ca:d2:20:0e reason=10
<3>CTRL-EVENT-DISCONNECTED bssid=00:00:00:00:00:00 reason=3
<3>CTRL-EVENT-DISCONNECTED bssid=00:00:00:00:00:00 reason=3
<3>CTRL-EVENT-DISCONNECTED bssid=00:1f:ca:d2:20:0e reason=3
I'm going to blame the driver since there are so much different
reasons but I thought I'd gather more opinions first.
Any ideas on what to blame?
