Win7 x64 postscript printer -> samba print Apple Laserwriter not available
by Gary Stainburn
Hi folks.
I've got a system where my WinXP (they still work well) workstations have a
virtual printer installed on them.
This virtual printer uses Apple Colour Laserwriter Postscript drivers to
generate PS files which are then printed to a linux server which passes the
file to one of my scripts which then parses the file, extracts data, coverts
the PS to PDF and then inserts the details into a database.
All except the last bit used to be quite common.
My problem is that on the new Win7 x86 PC's the Apple drivers are not
available. Can anyone point me to compatible drivers, or what I can do
instead.

Chrome video noise
by Patrick O'Callaghan
F17 fully updated.
I use Chrome (currently google-chrome-beta-24.0.1312.35-171386.x86_64)
as my main browser, but this may also apply to Chromium:
For the last few weeks, every embedded video has had a lot of noise (or
snow) in the image. It looks very much like the problem a few months
back with external Flash libraries, but that was solved (originally via
a workaround posted by Linus, then apparently with a fix from Adobe).
The odd thing is that it seems to happen with any sort of video, not
just Flash.
Is anyone else seeing this? The same sites seen with Firefox all work
fine.

FC16 > FC17: did preupgrade fail?
by sean darcy
On an FC16 box i just ran preupgrade-cli.
It ends on a down note:
Spawning worker 0 with 1682 pkgs
Workers Finished
Gathering worker results
Saving Primary metadata
Saving file lists metadata
Saving other metadata
Generating sqlite DBs
Sqlite DBs complete
Preparing system to boot into installer
DEBUG /sbin/grubby --title="Upgrade to Fedora 17 (Beefy Miracle)"

stage2=hd:UUID=dad91fb5-5749-4221-a145-ff6361a4bb11:/upgrade/squashfs.img"
sh: /sbin/grub: No such file or directory
/bin/echo: write error: Broken pipe
All finished. The upgrade will begin when you reboot.
Why's it looking for /sbin/grub? Should it have found it? And the write
error??
Doesn't give me a good feeling about starting the upgrade!

Laptop is getting hot after resume from suspend
by Christian Menzel
Hi,
while my Thinpad X220 normally shows 50 to 60 degrees Celsius, when
running on normal load, it gets hot to 90 to 96 degrees Celsius after
resume from suspend, although top does not show any CPU eating processes.
I think I experience this behavior since switching to kernel 3.6.x.
Does this happen on other machines too? Is there a cure for it?

libvirtd startup issue
by Tommy Pham
Hi,
I've managed to configured everything to as below:
* 2 physical NICs configured not to have IP addresses but are bridged instead
*** ifcfg-p9p1 bridged to ifcfg-br9 which does not get an IP
*** ifcfg-p10p1 bridged to ifcfg-br10 which has static IP
192.168.1.254 with 24 bit mask and gateway 192.168.1.1
* 3 isolated networks and no DHCP service
*** DMZ0 with no host IP configuration
*** DMZ1 with no host IP configuration
*** PRIVATE with no host IP configuration
* VM 1: 00-router with 5 NICs, 2 from bridge and 3 from isolated
networks, are configured in the VM as follow:
*** ifcfg-br9 is configured for DHCP.
*** ifcfg-br10 is configured static IP of 192.168.1.1 with 24 bit mask
and has DHCP service
*** DMZ0 has static IP and 24 bit mask
*** DMZ1 has static IP and 24 bit mask
*** PRIVATE has static IP and 24 bit mask
* various VMs in different isolated networks configured with static IP
and 24 bit mask.
I have the proper rules in place where the LANs can communicate to
each other as needed and are able to get out to the internet. I also
have network and NetworkManager services on autostart on system
start/reboot, which I can view the network and NIC properties OK with
the KVM manager GUI. My only problem is libvirtd does not seem to
start up properly even if I modify the /etc/init.d/libvirtd to have it
sleep for 5 minutes prior to execution. To resolve it, I'll have to
restart the libvirtd after system startup via "systemctl restart
libvirtd.service". However, that does defeat the purpose of autostart
of the VMs :(..... Does anyone have similar issue or know how to fix
it? This same configuration works fine in CentOS 6.3.
TIA,
Tommy

Comments about HP multifunction printers ?
by Davide Bolcioni
Greetings,
I am considering purchase of one of following two HP printers:
- HP LaserJet Pro 100 M175nw
- HP LaserJet Pro M1132
and I am seeking opinions and experiences on the subject. Some obvious
differences, such as color, networking (will use USB anyway) and price are
not really an issue.
I am interested in:
- how well does either work with standard Fedora 17 for scanning and
printing without downloading troublesome stuff (RpmFusion is OK) ?
- does either require firmware ?
- which is the newest model ?
- general usage satisfaction ?
Thank you for your consideration,
Davide Bolcioni

needed to copy AppleJavaExtensions.jar from infoslips.com to
/opt/infoViewer directory for it to run.
