FreeIPA Fedora 16
by Ian Chapman
Hi,
Is anybody using Fedora 16 clients with FreeIPA? I can successfully set
up clients using ipa-client-install, I see the users and can log in etc,
however every client machine fails to shut down after being configured
as a client. They basically hang indefinitely with the progress bar
almost complete. Pressing escape reveals nothing but a black screen.

Gnote + Gome 3
by Bill Case
Hi;
You can't always believe what you read !?
Google shows several conversations about gnote not yet being integrated
into gnome. Yet in Fedora 15 I had a little menu icon on a bottom panel
task bar/ notification area. I have no remembrance of putting it there,
but it just seemed to show up one day. So I don't know how to get it
back in Fedora 16. I have tried everything I can think of.
Gnote has become one of my most important aids to writing. How can I
get it back so that it is handy? And, get it so that I don't have to
open the search menu with it? I used to have a recently used notes
list.

Can I list all users defined in LDAP (on RHEL6 or Fedora) ?
by Pavel Lisy
Hello
in newest version of getent (on RHEL6 or Fedora)
$ getent passwd
returns only local users not users defined in LDAP.
When I run
$ getent passwd login_in_ldap
it works the same like before.
But I have many scripts where I get list of all users by this command
$ getent passwd
Can I list all users defined in LDAP?

Hi William,
I had the same problem, and I found a solution, that at least works for me:
$ gsettings set org.gnome.gnote use-status-icon true

rsync a cloned dual boot SSD drive for backup ? Catastrophic SSD future failure recovery ideas.
by linux guy
I recently suffered a surprise catastrophic failure of the SSD in my laptop.
As per this article, they seem to be bit hit and miss or as the
article puts it, they sometimes have an overwhelming Crazy/Hot ratio.
http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/2011/05/the-hot-crazy-solid-state-drive-...
Nevertheless, I feel like I'd like to try using the replacement SSD
that Intel is sending me.
Due to some decent planning and a bit of luck, I lost almost no data
(ie/home/me) when my SSD failed. Everything else ((ie the OS) was a
loss though.
Reality is just beginning to set in as to how much work its going to
be to set up a new drive with all the applications and settings that I
used to have. I want to avoid this effort should I ever experience a
drive failure again.
Due to the need to run 2 Windows only applications, I need to have a
dual boot setup.
For future SSD failures, what options do I have for setting up a
system that keeps a second, bootable copy of my SSD in sync with the
SSD ? I don't mind losing a day or two's work. But this business of
rebuilding the entire OS is painful.
What I am looking for is a system whereby I always have a cloned
version of the SSD ready to go should it fail. It needs to handle
both the Windows and the Linux installs.
Would something like rsync work on a regular hard drive clone of the
SSD ? Could rsync handle the Windows 7 partition ?
Thanks !

Advice from filesystems expert needed.

I have tried to put in /etc/fstab the following entry for a SDHC card:
/dev/mmcblk0 /media/C589-D18A vfat umask=000 0 0
but Ubuntu when boots tells me that the device is not ready to mount and I was given theoption to skip mounting which I do.The entry is for trying that everybodycould write to the SDHC card.Now,I cannot put tcpdump writing to the SDHC card but the card mounts automatically without any entry in fstab.
