Preupgrade F14 -> F15 Fails
by Dave Cross
I have two Dell PCs - a Dimension desktop and an XPS laptop. They are
both running Fedora 14 and I have tried to upgrade them both to Fedora
15 using preupgrade.
In both cases, when I reboot and select the "upgrade to Fedora 15"
option, I'm just presented with a blinking cursor in the top left-hand
corner of the screen.
Can anyone suggest where I should start to debug this issue?
Thanks,
Dave...

TurboYUM: EasyUrpmi for Fedora
by Manuel Escudero
Hello to Everyone:
With this mail I want to share with the Fedora Community the last proyect I
worked on: TurboYUM.
TurboYUM is an Online Tool for Automatic Repo Setup in Fedora Linux, just as
"EasyUrpmi"
For Mandriva - http://easyurpmi.zarb.org/?language=en
The thing is, Ubuntu has "Ubuntu Tweak" and it's PPA's, OpenSUSE has YasT
for Repositories
Configuration and Mandriva has EasyUrpmi. I was thinking about it and I felt
that we needed
a simple friendly tool intended to let our users add some extra repos with a
few clicks
and not with long command line orders, some people told me it was a great
idea and here
it is :)
With TurboYUM, users can add "with one shot" the following repos in their
Fedora Systems:
- RPMFusion Free & Non Free
- Adobe
- Livina
- Chromium
- KDE Redhat (En caso de que usen KDE)
No matter what desktop or arch they're using. TurboYUM it's obviously
opensource
and free for anyone who wants to use it, besides both the scripts and the
web interface
are available in English & Spanish. Check it out at:
http://www.turboyum.org/
And if you like it, help me to spread the word.
Have a Nice Day!

BlueBubble (Gnome 2.32 for Fedora 15) ?
by Franta Hanzlík
I hear somewhere about project called BlueBubble, which aims porting
Gnome 2.32 to Fedora 15.
Know someone more about it? Is possible download and try it? Will be
his RPMs in Fedora repos?
Thanks, Franta

I've had a similar issue with a wireless network card attached to a
desktop. It would recognise all visible networks, but wouldn't connect. I
bypassed this problem by giving the box a static IP. Good luck.

need f10 live xfce
by Mike Wright
Hi all,
I have an old IBM Thinkpad with 256M of ram. It had f10 on it.
I tried to install f15 live and after 5 hours of thrash it had crashed
and f10 was gone.
So I got f15 live xfce and it booted and runs well. OK, install to hard
drive. No way. Errors with "requires 640M to install". Now mind you,
it runs just fine with 256M. Some serious bloat got in there somehow.
At any rate I'm not going to install XP (which does install) so I'd like
to revert to f10, which I know fits.
Can anybody point me to a copy of f10-xfce or f10-live-xfce?
Thanks for any help,
Mike Wright

Recently updated Avant Window Navigator now has window selection menu problems
by Deron Meranda
In Fedora 15 Gnome 3 using the Avant Window Navigator (AWN). Recently
on 21 June 2011, AWN was updated to version 0.4.1-0.4.bzr830.fc15
Now the popup window-selection menu is drawn wrong. This popup is what
you see when you have more than one window in the same group/icon - it
lets you choose which one to switch to. After this update the
rendering of the layout of the items in that popup menu is messed up.
First, each item is given an overly large box (each perhaps 300 px
tall?), and the text within each no longer wraps, but instead extends
off both the left and right borders. A bit of text even appears to
spill out of the window's border entirely and floats above the
desktop.
There's a second problem too, but it was also there before this AWN
update. If there is an open application window that is large enough
and underlays the area where the AWN dock bar appears (mine is
anchored on the right side of the display), then when you get the
window-selection menu, it is not possible to move the mouse over to it
to select one of the choices. This is because, when you have
focus-follows-mouse, there is a gap between the AWN dock bar and the
window selection menu, and focus is lost before the mouse can move
over to it, causing the menu window to automatically close.
Thanks for any help.

Copyint a F15 install disk
by Geoffrey Leach
I have a F15 install disk. I need to make a copy (don't ask :-).
This is how I proceeded.
1. Mount the DVD on /media/CDROM.
2. cp -r /media/CDROM/* /tmp/dvd
3. genisoimage -o /tmp/dvd.iso -b isolinux/isolinux.bin \
-c isolinux/boot.cat -no-emul-boot -boot-load-size 4 \
-boot-info-table -input-charset iso-8859-1 -m TRANS.TBL -r /tmp/dvd
4. Replace source DVD with a blank DVD
5. growisofs -dvd-compat -Z /dev/dvd=$iso_file
6. On booting from the DVD and choosing "New install" the process skips
the disk check menu and goes directly to the language choice.
The original DVD gives me the disk check option. I need to do that.
Any suggestions as to what step I've missed?
Thanks.
