Removing NetworkManager results in very slow boot
by John Wendel
I removed the NetworkManager stuff from systemd, since I don't want to
run it. Now there's a long boot delay while DBUS tries repeatedly to
talk to NetworkManager.
Obviously, I did something wrong. How should I have stopped NetworkManager?
Thanks,
John

DNS Problem Maintaining Domain on Fedora VM
by Tod Thomas
I have a FC14 VM running on a Win7 box using Virtual Box. I cannot get
Network Manager to keep the domain name so I'm constantly having to add
it at the end of my host names which is a little annoying. I've googled
around and there are a number of suggestions but none of them are
definitive. Is there a single solution I can use in Network Manager
that I'm just not trying?
Thanks - Tod

F14->F15 Laptop Upgrade: Gnome 3 questions/confusions and other issues
by Max Pyziur
Greetings,
I have two boxes that run Fedora: a Dell Inspiron 600m laptop and a
home-assembled Intel Dual Core desktop.
I generally lag to doing upgrades by two weeks to a month. So far, I've
only upgraded the laptop. A bit tortuous.
The laptop wouldn't boot from the installation CD, so I went with a
network upgrade; it took a while ...
Gnome 3:
I join the chorus of peeves about Gnome 3; I lost my setup that gave me a
summary view of system health (swap size, CPU/RAM usage) and quickstart
buttons on the panel.
But I'm singing the same song everyone else is; I'll accept the imbalance
in the hopes that it is short-lived.
I've read the release-notes a bit and see that there is supposed to be a
dashboard on the left-side (don't see it; can't find it; can't figure out
how to activate it). Also, no search window on the desktop (or hasn't that
functionality been implemented?)
I got gnome-tweak-tool and fiddled with it until it crashed.
8-[
But I got my desktop icons back (Trash can, Gnome terminal, Home, etc.),
that from my understanding of the release notes I wasn't supposed to have.
8-O
Other issues:
I like the WiFi Radar.
8-)
I move files between my laptop and my Windows desktop at work using a USB
flash drive. When the flashdrive is plugged into the F15 laptop, the date
and time stamp appears correctly. When plugged into the Windows desktop,
the date/time stamp on the USB drive now appears to be in Universal time.
8-\
A little confused but still managing to function; much thanks for your
comments and suggestions in advance,
Max Pyziur

So that the IP with the most number of connections would be at top.

Preupgrade F14 -> F15 Fails
by Dave Cross
I have two Dell PCs - a Dimension desktop and an XPS laptop. They are
both running Fedora 14 and I have tried to upgrade them both to Fedora
15 using preupgrade.
In both cases, when I reboot and select the "upgrade to Fedora 15"
option, I'm just presented with a blinking cursor in the top left-hand
corner of the screen.
Can anyone suggest where I should start to debug this issue?
Thanks,
Dave...

TurboYUM: EasyUrpmi for Fedora
by Manuel Escudero
Hello to Everyone:
With this mail I want to share with the Fedora Community the last proyect I
worked on: TurboYUM.
TurboYUM is an Online Tool for Automatic Repo Setup in Fedora Linux, just as
"EasyUrpmi"
For Mandriva - http://easyurpmi.zarb.org/?language=en
The thing is, Ubuntu has "Ubuntu Tweak" and it's PPA's, OpenSUSE has YasT
for Repositories
Configuration and Mandriva has EasyUrpmi. I was thinking about it and I felt
that we needed
a simple friendly tool intended to let our users add some extra repos with a
few clicks
and not with long command line orders, some people told me it was a great
idea and here
it is :)
With TurboYUM, users can add "with one shot" the following repos in their
Fedora Systems:
- RPMFusion Free & Non Free
- Adobe
- Livina
- Chromium
- KDE Redhat (En caso de que usen KDE)
No matter what desktop or arch they're using. TurboYUM it's obviously
opensource
and free for anyone who wants to use it, besides both the scripts and the
web interface
are available in English & Spanish. Check it out at:
http://www.turboyum.org/
And if you like it, help me to spread the word.
Have a Nice Day!
