Yum conflicts and packaging question
by JD
Hi All,
In order to avoid conflicts like
Transaction Check Error:
file /usr/share/mythtv/themes/MythCenter-wide/recordings-ui.xml from
install of mythtv-themes-0.24-272.fc14.i686 conflicts with file from
package mythtv-base-themes-0.24-7.fc14.i686
Should not the new package have a directive in it
to obsolete the package it is in conflict with;
since the new package comes from the self same
repo as the package it is conflicting with?
The mythTV packages mentioned above come from atrpms.

postupgrade?
by Tom Horsley
I'm never likely to trust upgrading from one version of
fedora to the next. I like to do clean installs, giving me
a chance to start fresh, but I do (eventually) tend to
get all the stuff installed on the new fedora that I had
on the old fedora (which I keep around on a different
partition - another reason I like clean installs).
The last few releases I have been comparing the rpm -q -a
list in old and new to try and guess what I need to install
to get the equivalent stuff, but sometimes new programs
get substituted for old, and there are also all the
random things like themes and artwork which have different
sets installed by default and I don't usually want to drag
them along.
So, is there anything like a "postupgrade" tool that would
be sort of the inverse of "preupgrade" that can automate
picking the rpms I need to install to make a new fedora
install as much like an older one as possible? (substituting
new tools and artwork for old where appropriate)

Try to change phonon backend to something different ie: if you are using
phonon-gstreamer then change it to phonon-xine and vice versa

I'd venture you're missing codecs for whatever phonon backend you're using
(clementine uses gstreamer directly).
I'd guess you may need xine-lib-extras-freeworld from rpmfusion, see also:

Scancode sequences (in hexadecimal) of Left shift + Left Super
by Robert Dady
Hi all!
I need to get a scancode for left shift+left super.
I use "setkeycodes e05b 163" to use the left super key as AudioNext and
would like to use left shift+left super as AudioPrev, but I can't get the
scancode (with xev).
Any ide?

amarok: fast but quiet
by Frank Elsner
Hello ALL,
I need an advice for the following problem
on my system running Fedora 14 and amarok-2.4.0-1.fc14.i686:
When playing MP3s the play-progress-indicator moves (too) fast without sound.
Other applications like clementine, vlc, mgp321 work without problems.
Where should I start to find the reason and solve the problem?

It'd been my observation that most parallel ports were very non-standard. There were different modes of operation, and many were only suitable for connecting a printer (they were an output, only).
-----Original Message-----
Slightly off-topic,
Most paralel ports on those vintage machines were capable of both rx and tx
Allthough they could not transfer 8-bits wide.
Hence the lap-link protocol disected each byte into two nibbles.
Might seem slow, but anyway much faster than async at 19.200 bps which was often the highest reliable speed.
