NetworkManager to reconnect silently
by Misha Shnurapet
Hi.
I asked this question in NetworkManager mailing list, but everyone there seems to be busy, so I decided to ask here.
I run torrents on my notebook. On an electricity outage NetworkManager starts asking for a new password, so when I'm not around and the light goes back on (powering up the WLAN router), it just stands stalled with the dialog open.
Is there a way to tell NM not to ask for a new password ever? Because I use a 63-symbol passphrase once set up on all the (two) machines so to forget about it.
Thanks!

glibc issue?
by Will Yonker
Hello all, I have a strange question. I got some piece of
software that was compiled on a different version of linux and I'm running
into some issues. If I run the executable I get: Linux> ./SDC
./SDC: error while loading shared libraries: libdcmAccess4C.so: cannot
open shared object file: No such file or directory If I use ldd I get:

found (required by ./SDC) ./SDC: /lib64/libgcc_s.so.1: version `GCC_4.2.0'

/lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2
(0x00002b5e3874b000) So my question is. Is there any way to install
the dependencies (a newer version of gcc?) without anything else on the
system seeing it? This system has been running for a long time and I
don't want to break anything. Thank you for your help in advance. ---

bold font on firefox4 and chrome 11
by Fernando Lozano
Hi threre,
Since I updated my Firefox to 4 (using remi) and Chrome to 11 (using google
repository) neither seem to display bold fonts correctly. I see the spacing
between characters increase a little, but line thickness continues the
same, and most of the time I can't tell which text has a bold font and
which has a regular one.
I tried changing Desktop Preferences and even updated freetype to the
freeworld package from rpmfusion.net but I still cant't see bold fonts as I
used to. On other applications, like OpenOffice, bold fonts are fine.
This is the seccond time I ask the list, nodoy has any idea on how to fix?

Netstat Ouput - Where?
by Dan Track
Hi,
when I run netstat -s I get a whole listing of different statistics
on udp/tcp. what I would like is to be able to marry up those terms
e.g. TCPLossFailures with the appropriate TCP terminology. There must
be some refernce guide somewhere that shows what these fields mean or
what they are tracking, can somone please help me with finding this?
I've searched the web but can't find it - might be be though, bit useless.
Thanks

Amazing Linux victory!
by Tom Horsley
I just hooked up a Dell Zino HD via hdmi to a vizio HD TV
and no power on earth seemed to be able to get the desktop
to display at full width and height 1920x1080 resolution
with the ATI video that comes with it in Windows 7.
Wondering if this was a vizio problem or a driver problem,
I booted a linux live USB I happened to have around, and Bam!
The screen comes up perfectly in full width and height
with crisp clear edges on things and text you can read.
So, for the first time ever in my experience, a linux video
driver works out of the box better than the Windows
drivers which seem to be the only thing the manufacturers
care about (of course this is 64 bit windows, which
the manufacturers may still not care about as much
as 32 bit).
I'll have to add this to the plug & play working with
the HP scanner on my all-in-one device - also the first
time I ever saw that happen, and on linux, not windows.

F14: after kernel update, can't boot (from software RAID)
by Neil Bird
I did a belated update of my Fedora 14 box last night, which included a
new kernel (2.6.35.13-91.fc14.i686.PAE, previous was
2.6.35.11-83.fc14.i686.PAE). However, upon trying to boot, it slept for a
little bit, then said something like:
Fatal: no boot partition found, sleeping forever
(paraphrasing, I neglected to write the exact message).
I can boot fine if I select the older kernel.
title Fedora (2.6.35.13-91.fc14.i686.PAE)
root (hd0,0)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.35.13-91.fc14.i686.PAE ro root=/dev/md0
apm=power-off rdblacklist=nouveau vga=0x318 quiet rhgb LANG=en_GB.UTF-8
KEYTABLE=uk
initrd /boot/initramfs-2.6.35.13-91.fc14.i686.PAE.img
title Fedora (2.6.35.11-83.fc14.i686.PAE)
root (hd0,0)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.35.11-83.fc14.i686.PAE ro root=/dev/md0
apm=power-off rdblacklist=nouveau vga=0x318 quiet rhgb LANG=en_GB.UTF-8
KEYTABLE=en-gb
initrd /boot/initramfs-2.6.35.11-83.fc14.i686.PAE.img
The complication is that I'm using partition-mirrored RAID (2x drives,
identically partitioned, then /dev/mdX mirror-RAID devices applied to those
partitions, so /dev/sda0 & /dev/sdb0 -> /dev/md0 (my root/boot partition).
It kind of feels like the initramfs has been mis-created without RAID
support, but I'm not sure how to check.
I think there's been something iffy with my initramfs creation for a
while, as I always get errors about not being able to find the listed
KEYTABLE and SYSFONT (when present) files, although they're on my HD,
nomatter what values I give.
In fact, I get SYSFONT errors even with the above (nothing specified).
As it happend, those two errors (in quiet mode) are all I get when trying to
boot the new kernel, before a ~10s. sleep and then the fatal error.
Non-quiet mode didn't show me anything in particular; I'll try it again
later with the kernel's 'slow-boot-output' enabled (boot_delay=n).

IMPORTANT - Fedora Project Contributor Agreement Signing Window Is Open
by Tom Callaway
Please take a moment and read this brief email, as it is important.
Fedora is in the process of retiring our old "Individual Contributor
License Agreement" (also known as the ICLA or CLA) and replacing it with
the new Fedora Project Contributor Agreement (FPCA).
All Fedora contributors with accounts in the Fedora Account System
(https://admin.fedoraproject.org/accounts) who have agreed to the old
CLA *MUST* agree to the new FPCA by June 17, 2011 to continue
contributing to Fedora.
Here is how you do this:
1) Login to the Fedora Account System:
https://admin.fedoraproject.org/accounts
2) Once logged in, click on the "My Account" link in the blue box on the
left side of the window.
3) On the page that loads, you will see a section labeled "Account
Details". Look for the line that says "Contributor Agreement". On that
line, you should see a new section that says:
"New CLA Not Signed - We need contributors to sign the new Contributor
Agreement(Complete it now!)"
Click on "Complete it now!" and follow the prompts.
*****
It is important that Fedora Account holders who have signed the old
Fedora CLA sign the new FPCA. We have allotted a window of one month for
Fedora contributors to agree to the FPCA. This means that after June 17,
2011, any Fedora Contributors who have not agreed to the FPCA will have
their "cla_done" flag set to False. This also means that any groups that
they are in which are dependent upon "cla_done", such as "packager",
"ambassador", and Fedora People access will be removed.
There are a few accounts which are exempt from this, specifically,
accounts which are members of the "cla_dell", "cla_intel", and
"cla_redhat" groups. If you do not know what these groups are, you are
probably not in them. :) Accounts in these groups will not see the "New
CLA Not Signed" line on their "My Account" page, and do not need to take
any action at this time.
Please take a minute and login to FAS to agree to the terms of the FPCA,
to avoid loss of access.
More information about the FPCA, including the final FPCA text, can be
found here:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Legal:Fedora_Project_Contributor_Agreement
If you have any additional questions about the FPCA or the re-signing
process, please feel free to email me directly at legal(a)fedoraproject.org.
Thanks,
Tom Callaway, Fedora Legal

Re: About start system without X in Fedora 15

A quick and easy to remember method: Add the following to your
/etc/inittab file, and make it executable. Then run 'inittab 3'. It
suddenly strikes me that you may be able to do this, by merely
're-starting' X. I'm not near my F15 box ATM so I am not sure. But a
reboot works. After doing whatever, 'inittab 5' and re-start.
# REVISED INITTAB
# To set the default systemd target
# run as an executable with a level parameter
# eg: inittab 3
# this defaults to non-graphical for anything other than 5
# ..possibly dangerous with a 0 or 1, or even 6!
export LEVEL=$1
echo ""
echo " Setting RUNLEVEL to " $LEVEL
echo ""
if [ $LEVEL = "5" ];
then
rm -vf /etc/systemd/system/default.target
ln -s /lib/systemd/system/graphical.target
/etc/systemd/system/default.target
echo " Default target set to graphical.";
else
rm -vf /etc/systemd/system/default.target
ln -s /lib/systemd/system/multi-user.target
/etc/systemd/system/default.target
echo " Default target set to multi-user.";
