Getting a USB driver added for a device ? (Hitec HPP-22, wine, USB, RC)
by linux guy
I use the Hitec Aurora 9 (A9) transmitter for my remote control
vehicles.
http://www.hitecrcd.com/products/aircraft-radios-receivers-and-accesories...
This transmitter is part of a system of devices. One of the devices in
this system is the HPP-22, which is a USB device that allows a computer
to communicate with the A9 in order to load and save model information
as well as update the firmware in the transmitter and receivers.
http://www.hitecrcd.com/products/aircraft-radios-receivers-and-accesories...
Hitec publishes closed source Windows based software to enable a Windows
computer to communicate with the HPP-22.
http://hitecrcd.co.kr/tester/hpp_22.htm
After renaming the install file from "Install_hpp_22_V1.04(1).exe" to
"Install_hpp_22_V1.04.exe" in Dolphin, wine runs the installer just
fine, albeit with a few warning messages.
Note: Bash doesn't allow () characters. Doing a right click on the file
name in Dolphin allowed me to change it. In hindsight this could have
been corrected when downloading the install fall.
When I run the resulting HPP-22 program, it displays "HPP-22 is
disconnected." Ie its not finding the HPP-22 hardware connected to the
PC via a USB cable.
dmesg states the following:

At this point I have been advised that the proper USB driver has not
been installed for the HPP-22 device. Who should I talk to to get this
done or get help to do it myself ?
Thanks !

usbmon does not indicate any activity whatsoever on the bus the HPP-22
is connected to. My guess is that the HPP-22 software is not finding
the HPP-22 hardware and is thus not attempting to talk to it.

size of root-doc is enormous
by Genes MailLists
This package ( part of the 'root' package suite - which is
inappropriately named given the special meaning of root on unix/linux)
is 500 to 600 MiB.
Really ? wow ...
yum info root-doc:
This package contains the automatically generated ROOT class
: documentation.
Curious - why is thing so large ?
And if its automatically generated, can it be generated on the client
instead of propogating thru mirrors?
yum info root:
Description : The ROOT system provides a set of object oriented

TvTime -- I have forgotten the fix.
by Bill Case
Hi;
TvTime is showing nothing but interference lines. I had the problem
before, and was given a simple fix. I can't find the fix now and have
forgotten.
Running TVtime with Rogers cable in Canada. Still analog, NTSC. Using a
Hauppauge WinTV-HVR 1800 tuner.

Printing from WinXP machine to a F14 machine.
by Aaron Konstam
I am trying to print from an XP machine to a F14 but it is defeating me.
I am running the IIS system on XP which is supposed to support the ipp
protocol for accessing printers. It has a HP Deskjet on it as a local
printer.
Cups on the F14 is supposed to also support ipp communication.
In the XP documentation you are supposed to able to browse for printers
in the add printer GUI but none is found by my XP. It is also suggested
in the documentation to try:
http://host-address/printers to reveal printers on networked machines
but I get nothing.
Can anyone describe the method to get this to work? I have tried many
other things but nothing works. What am I missing

Missing file in .rpm
by Patrick Dupre
Hello,
I downloaded the file:
lyx-common-1.6.8-1.fc13.noarch.rpm
then:
rpm -qpl /tmp/lyx-common-1.6.8-1.fc13.noarch.rpm |grep LaTeXC
gives me:
/usr/share/lyx/doc/LaTeXConfig.lyx
/usr/share/lyx/doc/ja/LaTeXConfig.lyx
But if I make:
rpm2cpio /tmp/lyx-common-1.6.8-1.fc13.noarch.rpm | cpio -t |grep LaTeXC
I get:
./usr/share/lyx/doc/ja/LaTeXConfig.lyx
Where is the file:
/usr/share/lyx/doc/LaTeXConfig.lyx ????
Thank.

invoking shellscript from desktop icon
by Fred Smith
Hi all!
I've got a shellscript that is invoked by a desktop icon. works fine.
but every time I do it I get a gnome prompt asking if I want to
run in terminal, run, view, etc.
is there a way to disable that prompt FOR A SPECIFIC PROGRAM?
I know it can be disabled for all, but in general I don't want it
totally disabled, I just don't want to see it when I run this single
program.
I don't see any options in right-click/properties that would do it.
Thanks in advance!
