Urgent help needed for rpmfusion catalyst 10.12 f14
by Peter Boy
Hello,
I have to use the rpmfusion catalyst driver for my ATI Radeon HD 3470 on
my F14 system because of a bug in the open source driver since f12 for
that specific model. The catalyst driver worked fine with version
kmod-catalyst-10.12-1 / xorg-x11-drv-catalyst-10.12-2.
But since an update (mar 19) to kmod-catalyst-11.2-1 /
xorg-x11-drv-catalyst-11.2 I encounter regular kernel crashes, the
panel crashes when I start audacious, and many other programms don't
work anymore, especially some devel tools I need for my work on an open
source cms project.
Unfortunately I couldn't find the old files
xorg-x11-drv-catalyst-libs-10.12-2.fc14.x86_64
xorg-x11-drv-catalyst-10.12-2.fc14.x86_64
anywhere on the web. I searched all mirrors, asked google without success.
Does anybody have those files at hand and can send them to my mail
address?
Thanks in advance
Peter

Can't use setkeycodes any more in Fedora 14
by Neil Bird
I have a not-that-old Logitech multimedia keyboard for which I have to
manually add some scancode-keycode mappings. Up till F12, I could happily
do that with a call to setkeycodes at boot-up.
Now I've updated to F14, however, setkeycodes is always erring with:
KDSETKEYCODE: Invalid argument
failed to set scancode 94 to keycode 189
[numbers e.g.]
FWIW, getkeycodes seems to report an empty table (although this might be
correct if no extra settings have been applied):
Plain scancodes xx (hex) versus keycodes (dec)

Re: Libreoffice calculation [OT]

Basically what I am messing with, is the March Madness bracket office
pool we have at work. I take the number of wins for a round (example, 5
wins) and want to be able to just input that number into the cell, and
have it automatically multiply by a set number that scores for that
round (example, 10).
Maybe this will help
Round 2 scores 4 points per win. Someone gets 10 wins for that round.
That would be 40 total points for that round. So I want to be able to
just input the 10 and have it automatically multiply by 4 for me,
instead of doing it in my head/on calculator. I also will be printing
this sheet out (maybe converting to html first) to let everyone keep
updated with the scores. So except for the info for the brackets,
nothing else needs to be on there.
Gonna post a URL to let you see what it currently looks like (html form)
to get an idea of what I want seen. Any calculations that need done are
to be hidden and not seen.

CHECKSUM issue
by jim
I have been using Fedora 14 since its release, 32 bit version. I am
building a 64 bit HTPC that doesn't have a DVD/CD drive, so I will be
using a Flash for boot and download. I see recommendations for using
DVD-iso and others saying use the Live-iso, so I downloaded both. In
trying to confirm the download, I used the CHECKSUM for verification.
The Live-iso passed and the DVD-iso failed. Is the procedure the same
for each? I am absolutely a novice-minus at using gpg. The sites I used
and resultant CHECKSUMS are:

LXDM themes?
by Jake Peavy
hey all,
I recently installed the LXDE spin of F14 and the login screen is hideous.
I've done a bunch of Googling but haven't found much constructive on other
themes other than Industrial.
I don't know much about LXDM, can someone point me in the right direction?
I just want a very basic login screen, with no bubble writing and a solid
background, although I do like being able to choose username from the list.
Thanks,

Libreoffice calculation [OT]
by Mike Chambers
Got a sort of OT question...
In libreoffice using spreadsheet, I want to input a number in a cell and
have it multiply by 16.
I have tried =D3*16 and =sum(D3*16) and both get errors.
Anyone have any ideas? Obviously may contact me offlist and not bug the
list if know the answer.
thanks ahead of time,

Brasero to create video DVD?
by Alex
Hi,
Lots of questions today. I'm trying to use brasero on fc14 x86_64 to
create a DVD video from an AVI that I downloaded, and was just
wondering what people's opinion was of this program?
While it seems to complete, it also just exits abruptly (disappears,
really), and leaves the following in brasero-session.log:
BraseroVob gstavidemux.c(5134): gst_avi_demux_loop ():
/GstPipeline:pipeline2/GstDecodeBin:decodebin2/GstAviDemux:avidemux2:
streaming stopped, reason not-negotiated
BraseroVob called brasero_job_error
BraseroVob finished with an error
BraseroVob asked to stop because of an error
error = 1
message = "Internal data stream error."
BraseroVob stopping
Session error : Internal data stream error. (brasero_burn_record
brasero-burn.c:2839)
Is this normal? Can you recommend another program that an average
desktop user (my father-in-law) could use to burn a DVD from an AVI?
I've tried de-ve-de, and although I like it, it's probably too
complicated for him. Even a command-line application or script that
could be run would be acceptable, as long as it didn't require a bunch
of input decisions along the way.
Thanks for any ideas.
Best regards,
Alex

How to compile a soft same as the version realeased by fedora?
by WangWentao
Hi, guys
I tried to compile OpenSceneGraph-2.8.3-3.fc14.rpm software, and got a
low efficient and large version of it. But the version from fedora-repo
works well.
eg. my version with frame rate < 10, while fedora-repo version with frame
rate ~=40.
I have tried three ways:
1. configure && make
2. ccmake && make
3. rpmbuild --recompile OpenSceneGraph-2.8.3-3.fc14.src.rpm
They resulted the same anyway. Especially, the rpmbuld way took 3G+ disk
space, each .so file is much larger and each application is slower. It's
realy strange to me. I use the gcc/g++ 4.5.1 under fedora 14.
So where the differences come from? Or where are the special places in
fedora's compiling environment? Any advice will be appreciated, thx.

Automatic Backup when Drive Plugged In
by Chris Tyler
I was browsing the website of a computer supplier and saw an ad for an
HP "Simple Save" external disk drive, which automatically initiates a
hard disk backup (on Windows) when the disk is plugged into a USB port.
Later this year I'll be sending my daughter to University with a
Fedora-loaded laptop (she grew up on Linux :-) and have been thinking
about backup options for her -- and this sounded like a cool approach.
Instead of the unsafe autorun-file technique, though, I picture an app
that would check the UUID on disks (or the maybe the FS volume name) as
they are plugged in, and when a UUID is recognized, backup would
automagically commence.
But before I go off and write such a tool ... anyone know of an existing
apps that does this? (yum search doesn't seem to be finding any likely
candidates).
