SELinux help
by Chris Smart
HI all,
I know there's been a lot of discussion about SELinux lately, but I
like it and I use it (although I'm a recent Fedora convert). However,
just today I have hit a snag and I don't know to get around it - I'm
after some advice on how to work around it (without turning SELinux
off!).
I have a Fedora 13 OpenLDAP server for central authentication and
Fedora boxes which are configured to authenticate to the LDAP server
(done using Fedora's authconfig-gtk tool). In the tool under "Advanced
Options" I have ticked the "Create home directories on the first
login" for obvious reasons.
The problem is that when the user logs in, SELinux is blocking it
because it does not expect xauth to have write access to create the
home directory.
"SELinux is preventing /usr/bin/xauth "write" access on [user]"
How do I go about solving this? In fact, what is the _right_ way to solve this?
Thanks,
Chris

Running xrandr for kdm and after login
by Jonathan Gardner
I've been playing around with a dual-monitor setup on my F13 install.
I can run a command like the following to get them to display
properly:
/usr/bin/xrandr --output DFP2 --auto --rotate left --output CRT1
--auto --pos 1080x420
I added the above line to /etc/kde/kdm/Xsetup. When I start the
computer or log out, the kdm does start with both screens properly
aligned, but the login box is too high on the CRT1 side so it is cut
in half.
I don't know how to fix where the login box shows up. Ideally, I'd
like it to appear in the middle of the DFP2 screen. If someone has
some tips, I'd appreciate it.
I thought maybe it's getting confused with such a wide virtual space,
so perhaps turning off CRT1 will get it to center it on DFP2 properly.
I changed the line in /etc/kde/kdm/Xsetup to the following:
/usr/bin/xrandr --output DFP2 --auto --rotate left --output CRT1 --off
Now CRT1 is turned off, but the login box is nowhere to be seen on DFP2.
Once I log in, it obviously preserves my xrandr configuration. I'd
like to have it switch to dual-monitor mode, so I tried adding the
following line to /etc/X11/xinit/Xsession, but that doesn't seem to
run at all.
As I've mucked with the files, I might have broken something. Now
knetworkmanager isn't starting, although that may be a different
problem.

[F-13] Printing regression ?
by Denis Leroy
Hi list,
Woke up this morning to find my printer no longer working. Looks like a
recent F-13 testing update broke my setup, even though printing has been
very very stable for me as a rule these past couple of years.
I'm seeing
/var/log/messages:Sep 8 08:26:54 jupiler hpcups[2108]:
prnt/hpcups/HPCupsFilter.cpp 493: cupsRasterOpen failed, fd = 0
after trying to reconfigure the printer (an HP Photosmart C7280).
Downgrading the recent ghostscript testing package didn't fix it. I'm
still looking into it, but has anyone ran into similar problems ?

Problem customizing the Panel Menubar
by Jon Ingason
Hi,
I have a problem to customizing the Panel Menubar. I had it in F12 and I
have it now in F13.
I right-click on the panel menubar, but I don't get "Edit Menus", only
"Help", "Delete from panel", "Move" and "lock to panel".
How do I get "Edit Menus"?

DNS problem
by Gordon Charrick
I often use the site www.kitco.com in Firefox. This is a company, in
the US, that deals in precious metals (gold, silver, etc.).
The problem is that when I go to the site or refresh it, I see the
message "Looking up www.kitco.com" in Firefox's status bar for several
seconds before the page comes up. I don't have this problem with any
other web pages and also don't have this problem when I use Firefox on
Windows to go to this site.
Can anyone else confirm this and have an idea what's happening? I use
the site a lot because they have graphs and prices that are constantly
updated.

OCR program for plots recognition
by Hiisi
Could anybody suggest me a program in Fedora repos for plot
recognition? I have a bunch of graphs images scanned from different
papers and I want to put them into my Ph.D. theses. I have to replot
them in GNUPlot for uniformity.
TIA

libselinux 2.0.94-2 testing
by Christoph A.
I just wanted to try the fix for
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=630592
and downloaded the rpm manually
http://kojipkgs.fedoraproject.org/packages/libselinux/2.0.94/2.fc13/x86_6...
installed via:
yum --nogpgcheck install <rpm>
I guess this was the wrong and I would need:
libselinux-2.0.94-2.fc13.i686.rpm
but I'm unable to remove libselinux-2.0.94-2.fc13.x86_64.rpm
yum remove libselinux-2.0.94-2.fc13
[......]
[......]
You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem
** Found 1 pre-existing rpmdb problem(s), 'yum check' output follows:
libselinux-2.0.94-2.fc13.x86_64 is a duplicate with
libselinux-2.0.90-5.fc13.i686
and according to rpm it is not even installed:
rpm -e libselinux-2.0.94-2.fc13.x86_64.rpm
error: package libselinux-2.0.94-2.fc13.x86_64.rpm is not installed
I would like to test the fix, how should I proceed?

GNOME PDF creator
by Alex
Hi,
Can someone recommend a program to create PDF documents? I have used
convert from imagemagik, but would really like something easier to use
to create a PDF document from a set of JPG files, for example.
Thanks,
Alex
