Problem with gvfs
by JD
I connected my kodak camera to usb, and this error
banner popped up, saying:
Unable to mount KODAK EasyShare V1253 Zoom Digital Camera
Error initializing camera: -60: Could not lock the device
However, two icons appear on the desktop.
Both are named:
KODAK EasyShare V1253 Zoom Digital Camera
One is for the small internal storage (a few hundred megabytes)
and the other is for the 8GB flash card.
Browsing the 8GB flash,
I am unable to view the videos.
Double clicking on the the video icon
and "movie player" pops up the error banner:
An error occurred
Could not open location; you might not have permission to open the file.
So I tried to explicitly open it with VLC. VLC popped up the error banner:
File reading failed:
VLC could not open the file "/home/jd/.gvfs/gphoto2 mount on
usb%3A002,006/store_00010001/DCIM/100V1253/000_0018.MOV".
Your input can't be opened:
VLC unable to open the MRL
'file:///home/jd/.gvfs/gphoto2%20mount%20on%20usb%253A002%2C006/store_00010001/DCIM/100V1253/000_0018.MOV'.
Check the log for details.
$ ls -la ~ | grep gvfs
/bin/ls: cannot access /sdb3/home/jd/.gvfs: Transport endpoint is not
connected
d?????????? ? ? ? ? ? .gvfs/
So, on the face of it, it looks like it might be a gvfs problem.
$ rpm -q gvfs
gvfs-1.6.2-1.fc13.i686
This update came in a couple of days ago.
Can anyone shed any light on this?

great.
Thanks in advance,

clone current config fc13 with live usb
by Any Joe
A newbie here..
I have an FC13 on my laptop HD working perfectly with several customizations and making it a web server.
I would like to make a sort of "mini" clone
as a live USB stick with the same configuration [customized FC13 on HD]
==================================
My issue is: the whole FC13 including data is less than 5GB. I have
the rest of the hard disk (partition) as 15GB.
How do I replicate the live image (current FC13 on my laptop) on a 8GB USB stick? [as possible I do not want to resize the partition on hard disk from 15GB to to say 7GB].
So I can run on different machines by booting from USB stick and not installing, with same config
==========================================
Thanks a bunch in advance.

suspend/hibernate
by PaulCartwright
I have a nice Dell laptop with FC13 on it. Not sure if it ever worked, but
now, when I do either suspend OR hibernate, when I open it back up, it is
locked up.. have to hit the OFF switch & reboot..
I've seen messages on fc12, but not sure I've seen one about fc13..

size discrepancy after tarring a dir
by JD
I have two mounted disks, both ext3 mounted
as
/sdb1
/sdc1
On /sdb1 I have a directory, let's call it dirx.
1. rm -rf /sdc1/dirx
2. cd /sdb1
3. tar cf - dirx | tar -C /sdc1 -xpf -
Neither dir (/sdb1 and /sdc1) are not accessed by any programs other
than the tar program (and of course /sdb1 is the shell's CWD).
The shell's history file is in my home dir.
After tar:
4. du -sk dirx /sdc1/dirx
2904536 /sdc1/dirx
2802124 dirx
So, why this size inflation by 104MiB ?
I repeated the process twice. Same difference.
Other dirs tarred in this way from sdb1 to sdc1 do not show this
discrepancy.
Dirx contains mp3's.

Users without GDM Login - All Users Permanently Blocked!
by Jeevani W.
Dear Fedora Support,
On my new Fedora installation, I disabled the original user X created with installation with and entry in /etc/gdm/gdm.conf as detailed below. I created a new user Y for myself. However, I reversed this, disabling Y by addoing it as below, and re-enabling X be removing it from gdm.conf.
However, the re-enabling by removing from gdm.conf doesn't work, and now I find myself with no enabled login from the GDM login screen, and thus unable to login to my system at all.
I booted the system from the live-CD and mounted the /etc file system, then tried to remove any occurances that might be still blocking one of my users, with no success. Seems like once you enter a user to block into /etc/gdm/gdn.conf it does other configurations that permenently disables this user.
Please, please could you tell me what I need to do re-enable one of my users from a live-cd login and /etc/mount.
Alternatively, how can I create ANY user, or enable root login, to get into my system in some way at all?
Kind regards,
Jenni

To remove these users from the greeter window, you can edit
/etc/gdm/gdm.schema and find the following section:
<schema>
<key>greeter/Exclude</key>
<signature>s</signature>
<default>bin,root,daemon,adm,lp,sync,shutdown,halt,mail,news,uucp,operato
r,nobody,nobody4,noaccess,postgres,pvm,rpm,nfsnobody,pcap</default>
</schema>
Simply add the usernames of the people you want to exclude there,
separated by commas.
Alternatively, right under that, there is another section where you
can disable the list entirely:
<schema>
<key>greeter/IncludeAll</key>
<signature>b</signature>
<default>true</default>
</schema>
Change the 'true' value to 'false' and any user sitting at the console
will be forced to actually type their username to login.
After making changes to this file, you will need to restart gdm. You
can do this very easily if logged in remotely:
# init 3
(count to 10)
# init 5
Note that if you keep the list, each new user you add will have to
have their username added to the exclusion list in that file to be
removed from the list you see in the greeter.
Good luck!
