Fc13 Installation problem
by Vincent
Hello All,
Help, I Installed fc13 on Dell Dimension 8300, this computer has 2 hard
disk the first one 120GB with windows xp pro. The second 350GB I had
installed fc12 witch worked perfectly, and a third 350GB external
connected through USB used for backup. Fc12 had slow down on boot up so
I thought it is time to get fc13, I downloaded the i386 dvd iso file
from bit torrent side then double click that file it downloaded the
3.1GB iso file. on the installation selection I selected the 350GB that
came in the second line the next selection give me the option replace
the existing Fedora or use the entire disk, I selected the entire disk
the installation went through fine but when I reboot the following
message appeared "Error 17 Cannot mount selected Partition" Press any
key, Pressing enter this line came up
"Fedora(2.6.33.3-85.FC13.i686.PAE)"
I don't see any sign of dual boot been installed, I also do not remember
to have encountered any option about boot installation selection.
I appreciate any help, Thank you.

Fedora 13 freezes on Vostro 3700 - how to diagnose and fix?
by Chris January
I recently tried installing Fedora 13 on a Dell Vostro 3700 laptop (Smolt
profile:
http://www.smolts.org/client/show/pub_970e240b-29c8-499d-a137-d645db440137).
The installer froze several times (i.e. the machine stopped responding to
mouse or keyboard input) so that it took several attempts before a
successfull install. After Fedora was installed it would freeze within
about 5 minutes of booting. I tried changing the hard disk controller from
AHCI to ATA mode in the BIOS (as this fixed a freeze during Windows 7
setup) but that did not fix it.
I am currently running Ubuntu 10.04 and that works fine, with no freezes,
but I would really like to be able to run Fedora 13 instead. Ubuntu has a
2.6.32 kernel, whereas Fedora has a 2.6.33 kernel, if that makes a
difference.
What can I do to diagnose the problem? Should I file a bug in Bugzilla? If
so, what component should it be filed under?
I can test new kernels, but only from a USB stick as I don't want to
replace the Ubuntu install until I'm sure Fedora will work.

Chris January

App Inventor for Android and Fedora (not) ! (partly off topic)
by mike cloaked
I was quite excited when I had an email from my brother pointing me to
the new Android "App Inventor" that Google has released as a beta
allowing easy development of apps for android phones - that is until I
discovered that they appear only to have made provision for linux if
.deb packages can be installed on your computer - I only run Fedora so
it would seem that without rpm install of their programming
environment Fedora users are closed out!
Anyone else have any thoughts on this? Is there a way to get this
stuff running in an up to date Fedora system? Not strictly a Fedora
issue but if you are a Fedora user you may well be interested - hence
posting this in the Fedora list.

Compile HTTPD so it's SELinux Aware
by Jafaruddin Lie
Hi guys
We're thinking of compiling our own version of jailed Apache's httpd
on CENTOS 5.
Currently we don't have SELinux turned on, but we are building a new
server and would like to implement it.
I am familiar enough with setting the policies for the RPM version of
httpd, so my question is for the ones that we are going to compile,
what do I need to do on the compile to make it SELinux aware, and how
do I apply the policies to that particular instance?
There would be several different versions of jailed httpd instances
running on different ports.

hp-setup and samba printin g to a Windows 7 machine
by Aaron Konstam
I am trying to setup F13 machine to print to a Windows 7 machine using
samba.
I use system-cups-printer and setup the HP Laserjet 1020 printer using
the samba command:
smb://<username>:<passwd>@WORKGROUP/<machinename>/<printername>
F13 has hp 1020 as a device choice. The printed file appears in the
Windows 7 printer queue but no printing occurs. Instead I get the
following error:
Printer 'HPLaserJ' : printer requires a binary plugin. run 'hp-setup'
I am mystified what to do. There is no man page for hp-setup and I can't
find any options to use to deal with this error.
Can anyone make a suggestion?

sosreport hangs network
by Vitor Carlos Flausino
Hello all.
I'm having a problem that seems like a bug...
After installing fedora13, and run sosreport, the network stops responding (ssh, http, whatever...). After /etc/init.d/network restart, the network restarts working (some times it hangs not on the 1st time but a few times later).
Does anyone have the same problem? Any solution?
Best regards,
