by Jim
FC13/KDE
Trying to start virt-manager And I get this Error Message below, What
now ??
The network is running okay on br0 .
I tried to run gconf-cleaner, but I get the same Error Message.
Error Message:
Error starting Virtual Machine Manager: Failed to contact configuration
server; some possible causes are that you need to enable TCP/IP
networking for ORBit, or you have stale NFS locks due to a system crash.
See http://projects.gnome.org/gconf/ for information. (Details - 1:
Failed to get connection to session: Did not receive a reply. Possible
causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message
bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the
network connection was broken.)

T-bird pop mail files -
by Bob Goodwin
It seems I ask this question after every new Fedora release. How do
I go about transferring my Thunderbird pop mail files from this F-12
computer to a second computer running F-13.
I've been running Redhat and Fedora Linux since 1999 and have never
once succeeded in transferring my mail files.
Can anyone tell me where to look for a clear and simple step by step
procedure for doing this? My daughter manages to keep her mail
messages [on her Mac] back to the beginning of time, mine never go
back much more than six months, some I would like to keep.
The computers are all tied to our LAN, I can put files on a flash
drive, cdrom, etc. but my effort never seem to be able to get the
job done. I will try anything ...

/etc/security/console.perms.d/<*>.perms files being ignored
by parishd.list
I am attempting to alter the permissions of /dev/snd and its contents to rw-
rw-rw at boot time via a file /etc/security/console.perms.d/99-snd.perms, which
contains the following lines:
##
<sound>=/dev/snd/* /dev/snd
<console> 0666 <sound> 0600 root
##
This has worked with previous Fedora installations up to Fedora 10, maybe even
Fedora 11 (although the device names were different), but does not in Fedora
13. Further, the file /etc/security/console.perms.d/50-default.perms that has
been present in earlier versions of Fedora is missing; I don't even find it
using 'yum whatprovides'. The Deployment Guide for Fedora 12 ( can't find one
for Fedora 13), seems to indicate that this is still the correct way to
control console access to devices, and there are no mentions of any changes in
the Fedora 13 Release Notes, but it is not working for me.
I have verified that this is not a permissions or selinux contexts issue, and I
am aware that the same end can be accomplished via an addition to rc.local,
but I'm hoping to understand why things are not working as before.
If anyone can shed some light on this I would really appreciate it.
Thanks.
Daniel

I ran the firefox --safe-mode and the only thing I could check about
reset users defaults
There was nothing about creating new users.
And I got this Error message from the command line.

Missing files from tog-pegasus package
by JD
I installed tog-pegasus-2.9.0-10.fc13.i686
and found that the following files, which are
listed as provided by the package are missing
even after removing and re installing the package
via yum. To wit: these files are missing:
/usr/bin/cimmof-32
/usr/bin/cimmofl-32
/usr/bin/cimprovider-32
/usr/bin/osinfo-32
/usr/bin/wbemexec-32

/usr/sbin/cimprovagt-32
/usr/sbin/cimserver-32
/usr/sbin/cimsub-32
/usr/sbin/cimuser-32
/usr/sbin/repupgrade-32
Anyone check this out?
rpm -Va
reported the missing files.
So I did a manual check:
for i in `rpm -ql --provides tog-pegasus | grep '^/'`; do
echo $i
sudo ls -1 $i 2>&1
done | grep -i 'no such file'

clock-applet broken
by Frank Elsner
Hi,
the clock-applet was broken after upgrading evolution-data-server
from version evolution-data-server-2.30.1-2
to version evolution-data-server-2.30.2-2
with error message
/usr/libexec/clock-applet: error while loading shared libraries:
libedataserver-1.2.so.11: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
A "yum downgrade evolution-data-server" solved the problem.
Just to inform you in case you wonder why your clock applet has vanished
from the panel.

libedataserver dependency problem
by Michael Hannon
Greetings. I hope this doesn't distract anyone from the discussion of top
posting, but I'm getting a dependency problem when doing a yum update on a
freshly-installed, f13, x86_64 system.
Basically, it appears that some of the gnome applications require a version of
libedataserver that is older than the one that is currently installed. Please
see the appended for details.
I haven't done much tweaking of this system and none at all that would affect
the gnome applications.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem
You could try running: rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest

Unexplained temporary freezes in Thunderbird Fedora 13
by Jerry Feldman
In the past, Thunderbird would freeze temporarily while waiting to
obtain a GPG key or to load some graphics. However in Thunderbird 3.04
on Fedora 13 (x86_64) I'm seeing some issues where the screen goes dark,
even while I am composing. After a short while, it cathes up. My system
is an x86_64 system with 6GB RAM and an AMD quad core processor. I have
2 sources I get email from, (1) gmail via IMAP, (2) my ISP via POP.
AFAIK, Thunderbird downloads new email in the background, and has not
affected the performance. What is annoying is that this freeze occurs
while composing email, so that the other things, like waiting for a GPG
key to be downloaded or waiting for a very large email body to display
is not in play. I'm looking to see if anyone else is experiencing
similar issues for corroboration purposes. For instance, I encountered
it this morning before leaving for work. My system was relatively idle
with firefox and Gnome-terminal running. I think I had about 3
relatively non-dynamic websites on firefox at the time.
