NFS mount error
by Geoffrey Leach
I've got a simple network, systems 'A' and 'B' connected via wireless.
B wants to mount A's /, /home and /usr/local. The fstab entries are
A:/ /A nfs defaults 0 0
A:/home /A-home nfs defaults 0 0
A:/usr/local /A-ul nfs defaults 0 0
With this, B should do the mounts at boot time, assuming A is on line,
which it is.
The curious thing is that the mount of A:/ works fine. mounts of A:/
home and A:/usr/local fail with "mount.nfs: Unknown error 521"
FWIW, B is running Fedora 10, while A is running up-to-date Fedora 12.
This worked find prior to reloading F12 on A. Presumably I've missed
something -- any ideas?
Thanks.

deltarpms and newer kernels
by Antonio Olivares
Dear fellow Fedora users,
Deltarpms does help a little bit with many packages, but the kernel is not one of them :(
kernel-devel, kernel-headers, kernel-firmware, etc do work though, how come kernel package is not the same?
/*
Package(s) data still to download: 19 M
*/
Otherwise, real savings and improvement would apply :), wonder how OpenSUSE handles this, one of my machines at school died and it had OpenSUSE and updates seemed fast, but they have only one kernel which I don't like, with Fedora we can keep more kernels :)

Google earth segfaults on 64 bit fc10
by Wendell Nichols
I run 64 bit fedora core 10 and the proprietary Nvidia drivers
(NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-173.14.22-pkg2.run). Google earth worked when the
machine was running 32 bit but segfaults now that I reinstalled as a 64
bit os. Its a Thinkpad T61p.
It segfaults shortly after loading /usr/lib/libnvidia-tls.so.1 so I
suspect its failing in this Nvidia lib.
Any suggestions?

Mail Problem.
by Reg Clemens
Im at a loss here.
I have 5 machines, 4 of them (should be) forwarding any mail generated by
scripts to the 5th.
Its not happening.
When I go to the mail machine, my main machine, I can do
telnet localhost 25
and it connects. When I do the same command on the other 4 machines, it can
not connect.
Now Im using my own sendmail.mc nad submit.mc, but have made multiple changes
with
no effect.
WHAT controls the connection to localhost?
And just for completeness, NO there is no firewall running on the machines in
question.
Any help would be appreciated.

Gnome bottom panel keeps dying
by Fred Smith
On F12, recently the bottom panel (on a vanilla Gnome installation) has
decided to disappear occasionally.
the occasions have become more and more frequent til I end up rebooting
at least once to get a bottom panel.
in fact, today, I don't get one (visibly) at all. Clues?
And today, the ABRT flashing red light appears on the top panel, but when
I hover the mouse over it it says "Abrt service is not running." I'm
gonna guess that the dying panel has triggered abrt, but as to why it
says it isn't running, I have no idea. It IS enabled in the services
app.
TIA!

F11 consistent failure to boot after install.
by Reg Clemens
I have not seen this mentioned on this list, but I have just finished
installing
F11 on 5 machines, and these range from an old Pentium 2, up thru a Core2 duo.
In every case, after doing a clean install, the installed image failed to boot
This failure is before any of the grub messages, so it seems to be a bad boot
block.
After a couple of hours of screwing around (sometimes installing an earlier OS
in another partition) I have finally got the damn thing to boot, but I have
NOT seen this problem mentioned on this list.
Is this a known problem?
Is there any simple solution?

anyone have working android SDK on f12 x86_64?
by Robert P. J. Day
i started in on this a while back, then got dragged away. now i
want to finish it, so if anyone has already gone thru this, that would
be just ducky. if you have no problem with making that recipe
publicly available and have no web page, i can provide one at my wiki
for everyone else's benefit.
first issue: AFAIK, you can't create a fully 64-bit install of
that -- you'll need to install a number of 32-bit packages. but feel
free to convince me otherwise.

Anyone know how to rsync or ssh to an ftp site? (Follow on to Tar Oddity)
by DB
Evening All,
After many trials & tribulations, I've finally got my laptop running F12
- got caught by the "yumex kernel upgrade" problem - still can't get ark
to read consistently from my external disc -even after running cpu test
for 2 days & memtest for 80 hours without error & getting a clean bill
of health from palimpsest for the HDD, - so tried rsync & ssh & finally
followed enough "how to"s to copy my /home from F11 to F12. Thanks to
all for the many ideas of how to fix it!
Now.... seeing how brilliant rsync is at updating my /home on the 2
machines, I thought it'd be a Good Idea to try and use it to keep a
website I look after, up to date. Problem is - how do I specify the
"receiver" address, when I only have an ftp access to the distant system
(& I guess my chances of installing rsync on a provider's system is
about as good as......) All the notes I read on the 'net seem to work
with ip addresses, which I don't know how to find for my target...
As ever, enormous thanks for any pointers & pushes in a "good" direction!

serial8250: too much work for irq18
by Antonio Olivares
Dear fellow users,
I have a problem with the message in the title. When I run dmesg, I see that. My machine does not have a serial port and it spits out that message when I run dmesg. Is there any way I can blacklist the serial driver from loading?
Thanks in Advance,

HP Pavilion a375c w/Fedora 12 compact flash problems
by Donald Russell
I have Fedora 12 running on an HP Pavilion a375c PC.
It has one of those "multi-card" reader things, and if I insert a Memory
Stick, an icon for it appears on my desk top and I can browse files on it
etc.
If I insert a Compact Flash card, the little blue light (beside the slot)
comes on, but Linux doesn't seem to recognize it/make an icon for it on the
desktop.
I tried creating directory /mnt/cflashcard but then I don't know what device
to mount there to mak the CF files available...
How do I get this working?
Thanks,
