F8: CPAN problem
by Dan Thurman
To make a long story short, I was trying to get procmail support added to my
sendmail base in order to get maildir (instead of mbox), and in one of the
instructions on the website it said to install CPAN as follows:
# perl -MCPAN -e shell
Well, I did go through this and it all seemed to work fine,
except in various places where there was NOT OK reported
during the building of certain modules.
I was told to do this as root user, and noticed that it built
/root/.cpan and /root/perl and it probably added stuff to the
/usr/lib/perl paths but I am not certain of that.
Since I was not able to complete this CPAN process, I blew
away the above two directories in /root, restarted the process
and then I got this:
# perl -MCPAN -e shell
Can't locate ExtUtils/MakeMaker.pm in @INC (@INC contains:

On reboot, I got reports in various services being started up and
it appears to display the same information as above.
What can I do to remove or clean up this mess?
It was not until later I discovered perhaps it was not
wise to mix the CPAN method with the CPAN rpms,
but I guess it is a bit too late now.
Kind regards,
Dan

Boot Issues:
by Jeff Maxwell
I was able to get around the issue by removing the 12-174 kernel using
yumex as suggested then re-installing it by using yum in a terminal
session.
Thanks for the help.

pinentry-gtk segfaulting
by Genes MailLists
I use penentry-gtk with gpg-agent. It has been crashing ever since I
went from f11 to f12.
The passphrase window pops up - soon as i move mouse to be in the
window - it tells me in red text 'bad passphrase' .. window flicks and
comes up new - then I can type in and all is well.
If the mouse is in the popup when it starts there is no crash.
Abort was catching these - it stopped aftrer I upgraded to 2.6.32 kernel.
/var/log/messages shows this:
kernel: pinentry-gtk-2[23746]: segfault at 84 ip 000000365b

Best way to troubleshoot intermittant lockups on F12
by Mark Goldberg
I have an F12 installation that experiences intermittent lockups,
usually at times of heavy usage.
The system just locks up solid, keyboard and mouse are non responsive.
Graphical screen remains
the same as it was when it locked up. Nothing is recorded in the
system logs, and I also have
logging to a remote machine and nothing is sent to there either. If
you attempt to telnet in, you get
the first telnet message with the kernel name but no login prompt and
it times out. Only a hard reset
and reboot gets it back.
I've extensively tested the hard disks and memory. Processor temp is
well controlled by a big
fan.
This is on an ASUS M4A77D motherboard (AMD 770) with an AMD 9850
processor. I've tried pci=nomsi
and it does not seem to change things.
Twice, running yum caused the lockup, but any intensive progam can. It
reencodes video early
in the morning and has locked up three times then.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Something strangee happewned to alll the non-hidden files in my home directory
by Aaron Konstam
I am running F12 on a desktop machine. Today all of a sudden I noticed
that all the non-hidden files in my home directory have disappeared.
Along with the others, Documents, Desktop, Music, etc. directories have
disappeared.
In addition I cannot recreate a Desktop directory which has the magic
property of displaying its contents on the Desktop in Gnome. Instead all
files put in my home directory appear on the desktop.
In a directory belonging to another user this Desktop file retains this
property.
Removing the .gnome* and ,gconf directories and logging again does not
help.
Any help out there?

Am I the only one?
by François Patte
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Bonjour,
I post again my problem: on my f12 install I have a problem with symlink
/dev/cdrom, /dev/dvd, /dev/cdrw, /dev/dvdrw which all exist *until I
insert a disk in the device*, as soon as the disk is mounted, these
links are erased and don't come back untill the next boot.
I would like to know if anybody else experienced the same problem and I
am searching a clue to solve this problem.
I suspect HAL or udev, but don't know how to search.
I have a fully updated fedora 12
Thanks for attention.
