qt4 assistant has only empty fields...!?!
by Rob
Hi,
I have installed qt4-devel, in order to use designer-qt4.
That is OK, but the assistant-qt4 that comes with it, opens
with blank fields, no entries at all.
I'm running up-to-date Fedora 11, intel 32 bits version.
Does anyone have a solution to remedy this?
Thank you.
Rob.

sound on Fedora 11 XFCE spin (all machines)
by Globe Trotter
Hi,
I have installed the official Fedora 11 XFCE spin on three machines (IBM/Lenovo Thinkpad T61, Dell Precision 650, Dell GPX 270) but sound works on none of them. I have looked around quite a bit using release notes to no avail. I have also gone into alsamixer and unmuted and increased the volume of everything in sight! Still no luck! Is there a place to read and understand what is going on, and how to fix it? This can not be a hardware issue: The Thinkpad is a 64-bit system and the others are 32-bit. All sound worked very well up to and including Fedora 10. (And I much preferred the three-tone sound of system-config-sound, by the way...)
Any help is much appreciated!
Best wishes,
T

gToDo RPM for F11?
by Globe Trotter
Hi,
Does anyone know if there is a gToDo RPM for F11? anjuta seems to have a plugin for it, but I was wondering if I could get away without installing the whole jig: of course, I do not know if it has the program bundled in there also.
I note that there is a phpToDo in F11.

grub in mbr needs bootable flag
by Herbert Gasiorowski
Im using a kickstart installation with my own partitioning.
I had no problems with Fedora 10 but now on f11 grub will not start without a
bootable flag set on any partition.
It nearly looks as if grub is installed in some partition but I am quite shure
that the old MSDOS MBR is overwritten.
Is there a way to check if grub is installed in the MBR?
Or is it a bug in grub?
(kickstart option is: "bootloader --location=mbr")

difference in bash tab completion between fedora and SLES11
by Robert P. J. Day
i'm confused -- i just installed suse enterprise system 11 (SLES 11)
on a laptop and wanted to check the contents of the initrd file. so,
as i've done on fedora many times, i popped into /boot and typed:
$ gunzip -c ini<TAB>
to let tab completion fill out the rest of the "initrd" file (or at
least as much as it could until i needed to help out).
on fedora 11, this would work just fine -- tab completion blindly
sees what matches and goes from there.
on SLES 11, though, tab completion did *nothing*. it just sat
there, even though there were two objects in /boot that started with
that prefix.
i tried the same tab completion with "ls" and "file", and it worked
fine. but not with "gunzip". so, as a test, i just did:
$ gunzip -c <TAB>
and, to my surprise, all i was offered as possibilities were 6 out of
14 objects in that directory -- the two directories, and the four
files that ended with .gz. huh?
it appears that tab completion is trying to be intelligent about
this (gunzip should be offered only .gz files and *directories*?), and
tying the completion possibilities to the command. i've never seen
this before. bash feature? config file to define this?

attempting to do a ldapsearch on a public college ldap server...
by bruce
Hi..
Trying to run a simple ldap search/query against a supposedly public ldap
server. I've tried a number of copy/paste attempts that I've seen from
various sites with no luck...
If anyone has successfully pinged/queried a public ldap server from the
cmdline, can you post your cmd that you used so I can see what I'm missing..
Thanks!

FC10 -- adding /var/log/messages to daily logrotate
by Robert Moskowitz
I just discovered that /var/log/messages is NOT part of the daily
logrotate on my FC10 netbook. My drive was full with a 4Gb messages
file. Deleted it and now the system is working right again.
So I want to add it to the daily rotate. Is there an easy way to set
this up?
More importantly why is it NOT part of the daily rotate?
