Frustration with F10/KDE
by Jim
Trying to put Icons on Desktop.
Dragging a app/icon from menu to Desktop, when you want to put a icon in
a certain place, Kde moves it some place other than where you want it.
You have no control of where you put Icons.
This has nothing to do with Folder view

hi,
A counter may be nice too, as had to execute the line more then 20 times
before I got Firefox up. Then it may be good for hours. It may eat memory,
give all sort of funny problems. ( running radeon )

Someone with a good command construct ??
by Arne Chr. Jorgensen
hi,
I am sure some of you can come up with some clever command. Here is what
I would like to do:
In (A) - I am executing the commands I came up with, but would like to have
the dump that appear in (B) directed to a file.
Then it should execute again as in (C)...
(A)
[root@----]# strace -o /dev/null -p `pgrep Xorg`
Process 2469 attached - interrupt to quit
(B)

Sometimes it it failing like above, sometimes it is segmentation faults, and sometimes it may throw you out
of the session. By writing to a tempory file instead of /dev/null, I have been running Rosegarden thet otherwise
just threw me out of the session. ( As an example )
Perhaps there are better ways to do this ?

Re: mounting encrypted linux partition on windows
by Damián Rodríguez Sánchez
That's an interesting idea. Maybe not just character coding, but also
keyboard setup: I have a brazilian portuguese keyboard that's working
fine under Windows and Linux graphic mode, but quite possibly being used
as a standard US keyboard outside X, which is where I enter my password
before starting Fedora. I'll have a look at that, since I use some non
alphanumerical characters in my password.

Revisor trouble
by Beartooth
Following http://www.ghacks.net/2009/05/15/create-your-own-
version-of-fedora-with-revisor/#more-12825 I did yum install revisor,
launched it, and started trying to add repos.
I opened /etc/yum.repos.d, started with rpmfusion-free.repo, and
used c&p after the equal sign to get entries for each box; I checked
gpgcheck and Save to Configuration. It hung.
I cancelled, started over, and used whole lines -- including the
# in the line for the baseurl. It hung again.
I must be missing something obvious. What??

hardware problem? maybe so
but I did install centos5.3 on this same cptr, no trouble at all.
So if hardware, something conflicting with f10 not centos.
the video card seems to be recognized
yes, I have tried f10livecd and it does come up in desktop.
But, trying the livecd install I have very similar failure as I did from dvd.

Obscure .eh_frame debug info question.
by Tom Horsley
I was just wondering if there is anyone out there in redhat
land who can shed more light on the use of dwarf register 16
for a virtual "return address" in .eh_frame info, probably
hand generated .eh_frame info in the vicinity of the
pthreads library mutex locking code.
It is briefly mentioned in one place in the x86_64 abi
with no clue as to how it is used. Google finds zillions
of patches where it was inserted in the library, but
no actual explanation.
The .eh_frame dumps of the pthread library via readelf
make no sense to me at all.
And it will clearly take me at least 15 years to trace through
the code in gdb and figure out what it actually does, so
if anyone out there knows, please tell me :-).

Can I force it? F9 >> F10 (the F9 kernel is newer than F10s) ...
by Joe Kazura
Here's the actual message:
Transaction Check Error:
package kernel-2.6.27.23-78.2.50.fc9.x86_64 (which is newer than
kernel-2.6.27.21-170.2.56.fc10.x86_64) is already installed
I have not custom built or patched the fc9 kernel, I have always just
taken what the repo offers.
I'm sure the CURRENT f10 kernel is much newer, which is why I was
thinking is there a way to force it?
Head check me on this, please.
Thanks,
