F9 -> F11 with only 1 partition
by Dave Feustel
I'm running 32-bit F9 with only 1 partition.. The lack of a separate
boot partition prevented me from completing the preupgrade to F10. Can I
upgrade to F11 or should I reformat and create 2 partitions before
installing F11 from scratch? If I install from scratch I could switch to
64-bit which would be nice. I would prefer to install/upgrade from DVD.
Thanks.

ssh problem
by Dave Feustel
I am trying to set up ssh for use on my local network.
When I try to access f9 with ssh from suse, the connection is refused.
When I try to access suse with ssh from f9, ssh hangs.
AFICT, all other ssh invocations on both f9 and suse succeed.
Is ssh being blocked by a problem with the f9 firewall?
How can I check?
Thanks.

F11 and gtkpod
by Roger Grosswiler
Hi,
I recently installed F11 Preview. Basically, it is working excellent. The only exception
is gtkpod.
If i copy the content of my ipod nano 8gb silver (3rd gen.) to the music library, gtkpod
crashes with the error-message "no X-Displayer available."
Is this error known?
Thanks,
Roger

Re: emacs c++ code completion help

Here we go, I got it working:
Download these files:
auto-complete.el
auto-complete-cpp.el
auto-complete-gtags.el
auto-complete-semantic.el
auto-complete-yasnippet.el
put them in a directory, let's say ~/.emacs.d/elisp/
then add this to your ~/.emacs file:
====================
(add-to-list 'load-path "~/.emacs.d/elisp")
(require 'auto-complete)
(global-auto-complete-mode)
====================
It worked for me, but let me know if it worked for you too! (the
auto-completion is really nice btw!)

It seems it is partially working.
After the dot(.) the list of built-in functions do no appear as list.
But when I type "v" a list appears with the options
1.vector
2.vv (it is the variable i declared)
What i did:
1.Downloaded all .el files from here http://www.emacswiki.org/emacs/AutoComplete#toc5
2.Put these files in ~/.emacs.d/elips
3.Added these lines in ~/.emacs file
(add-to-list 'load-path "~/.emacs.d/elisp")
(require 'auto-complete)
(global-auto-complete-mode)
Thanks.

totem and android videos
by Wolfgang S. Rupprecht
The new Google G1 (linux-based) phone just added camcorder capability.
Unfortunately the audio codec is something weird and totem complains
about a missing codec.

Is there an RPM that I'm missing that provides this codec? I thought I
had all the gstreamer ugly/bad/downright-evil etc codecs that were
available.

DVD creation for Iso download.
by craig morroni
Good Morning:
I have downloaded the Rel 10 Fedora iso from the website (general link)
so the files is F10-i686-live.iso to my windows desktop.
I have tried to create a dvd on two different machines that I write
DVD's to all of the time. So this is not my first attempt at creating a
DVD.
In this case, I am telling Roxio to burn an image.
Roxio tells me everything is complete and ejects the DVD. When I take
the DVD and try to explore, there isn't any information on the DVD.
Why?
Thanks.

yum upgrade Fedora Core 5 -> Fedora Core 10?
by [F]usion[S]tream - Gmail
Due to certain circumstances, my live server is still on Fedora Core 5.
Does anyone know what are the necessary steps to upgrade to say, Fedora 10?
I've tried yum update and although there are dependency errors, I'm sure
I can get past that. But what I would like to know is is it safe?
I'll be skipping 5 major revisions! I don't want to upgrade to Fedora 7
because it's only a matter of time before it's deprecated as well. I
figure if I'm going to do it, I might as well go big.
Any thoughts?

Paradigm shifting via changing desktops in KDE4 ?
by linux guy
In KDE3.5, we used to be able to set an option such that applications
didn't appear on multiple desktops or on the task bar of another
window.
Ie: I could have my email and general apps open (and displayed on the
taskbar) on desktop #1 and my programming apps on the taskbar and
desktop of desktop #2, word processing on desktop #3, etc. I could
then switch between paradigms by simply changing desktops.
How do I do this in KDE 4.2.x ?
I can set which desktop an application belongs to without too much
trouble, but the task manager shows all the applications that are
running on all the desktops, not just the desktop that I am currently
working in. How do I limit the task manager to show just the
applications that are running on the current desktop ?
As you can probably surmise, I have not investigated the multiple
desktop views part of KDE4.
Thanks
