Difficulty going to sleep?
by Timothy Murphy
Anyone found that Suspend to RAM seems to be failing recently?
It used to be only too easy in my case -
closing the laptop lid would do it.
But now it almost always fails, even from the KDE f-menu.
It could be something to do with NFS in my case ...

Errors in Logfile
by James Allsopp
Hi,
I'm getting these errors in my log and was wondering how I should go
about fixing and diagnosing the fault? According to Google it could be a
drive fault, I've an IDE dvd-rom in there and a SATA hard-drive at the
moment. If it's the DVD, I'm not that bothered, but if it's the Hard
drive...eek!
Thanks
Jim

2 sata drives using 1 cable
by Mike Chambers
I tried googling this question and not having any luck. And not being
the hardware expect, thought I would ask here.
I have 2 sata slots on my MB, 1 goes to my dvd player, the other to my
HD. And I do have one IDE slot to use.
Now to the question. What I want to know, is if 1 sata HD can slave off
another sata HD? Like using IDE drives and using one as master, and one
as slave, both using same IDE cable, with just more than one connection
on it? Of course, not sure I see another slot mentioned in the BIOS, so
maybe it's a mute point?

the proper way to restart udev to pick up a new group?
by Robert P. J. Day
in order to have a udev-created device file belong to a
newly-created group, i added a trivial rules file to
/etc/udev/rules.d/, but i'm assuming i have to restart udevd to
have the new group recognized, since i can see from the man page for
udevd that there is a --resolve-names option which defaults to
"early", and i'm assuming that that means that only the groups that
exist when udevd *starts* are valid for rules files, is that correct?
i kind of surmised that when i saw, in /var/log/messages, a udevd
diagnostic claiming that the group was "unknown". so, other than just
flat out killing udevd and starting it again manually, what's the
proper way to restart it so that it sees the new group? thanks.

Display actual speed of ethernet connection
by Dave Feustel
I just got a gigabyte switch for my home network and I still
haven't figured out how to display the tx/rx data rate of each
nic connected to the switch. Also, the leds for the F9 computer
is not lighted on the switch, although F9 is accessing the
internet.
What command will display the rx/tx data rates of each nic?
Thanks.

Mouse goes to sleep?
by Jeffrey Ross
System is Fedora 10 x86_64, the mouse is a Micro$oft wireless Laser
Mouse 5000.
The mouse occasionally stops responding for one or two seconds and then
continues like nothing happened. There are no messages in the logfiles
related to the mouse and the the keyboard which is also USB does not
have any issues.
The desktop is Gnome and I all currently available patches/updates have
been installed.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks, Jeff

Converting Ext4 filesystem t Ext3
by Geoffrey Leach
Yes, I meant ext4 => ext3. Lots of advice on going the other way.
Why? System panics when reading files from the ext4 FS. It's non-root,
non-boot. Data is not critical, although I would like to save it if
possible.
