Dmaged xterm in Fedora 10
by Reg Clemens
This has to be a well known problem, since it has occurred in both fc9 and
fc10.
When using XTERMS under the TWM window manager in fc9 and fc10 there is
garbage in the window, but my searches with GOOGLE have not turned up anything.
If one opens one window, fine.
If one opens a second window that overlaps the first window fine.
But when one MOVES the top window, it takes with it blue and yellow lines from
where the edges of the underlying window were.
Now a 'clear' will clean up most of these lines,- at least the lines in the
interior of the window, but it leaves the marks on the edges.
This should not be necessary.
So, this appears to be more of an X11 problem than an actual Fedora problem,
any idea when its going to be fixed?
Or are there fixes out there (somewhere)?
And yes, twm is an OLD window manager, but its light weight and works fine for
my applications.

Tune started from rc.local plays to completion, before bootup continues
by Nigel Henry
Experimenting a bit, I set up a one liner in rc.local, which uses aplay to
play a tune which I put in /usr/local. See below.
aplay /usr/local/Summer-in-the-city.wav
I had to disable pulseaudio, by removing alsa-plugins-pulseaudio, otherwise
the tune wouldn't play, but perhaps further aplay options are needed to get
the tune to play with pulseaudio enabled.
The question is though. When the tune is playing the bootup sequence stops,
until the tune has finished playing, then procedes.
Is there a way for the tune, which is fired off from rc.local, to play without
interrupting the boot process?
Thanks in advance for any incantations that may resolve the problem.
Nigel.

is there a noscript plugin for Konqueror
by Antonio Olivares
Dear fellow Fedora users,
Is there a noscript plugin for konqueror?
I visit some sites and sometimes konqueror becomes unresponsive that I have to manually close it then restart it. I have the text file from adblocker to block random ads and stuff, but sometimes things come in :( and take over the browser that I have to shut it down.

Thanks in advance,

Moving GPG Keys Between Computers
by Robert L Cochran

One more question about my collection of gpg keys.
I currently keep all keys on my Fedora 7 desktop. I want to move the
keys to the Fedora 10 system on my (far newer) laptop. Am I right in
assuming that all I need to do is to copy my .gnupg directory from the
Fedora 7 desktop to the Fedora 10 laptop?
Thanks

vlc segfaults on shoutcast listings
by oleksandr korneta
vlc crashes when I'm trying to browse Shoutcast Radio or TV listings.
steps to reproduce
1) open vlc
2) enable Shoutcast Radio Listings or Shoutcast TV Listings through
Playlist--> Additional Sources.
3) Open playlist click on corresponding item
Since this started happening about a month ago, and worked fine before
that, I assume it's broken by one of the updates. Observed on F10 i386
and F9x86_64.
I appreciate if anybody suggests when do I report this to bring the
attention.

Oleksandr Korneta
I'm running F9 x86_64 and F10 i386 on x86_64 hardware, should this matter.

Establishing startup order for programs ??
by Bill Case
Hi;
How do I change the order in which programs start at login for various
programs that are in the Startup Programs tab of my Sessions folder?
This is not a crucial question for me -- more in the line of "Enquiring
minds want to know".
For example:
For reasons of neatness and order only, I would like to start
xchat-gnome (the front end) at the same time, or just before or just
after, Evolution. Presently xchat-gnome is the first program to start
while Evolution is the last even though xchat does not make its internet
connection until all other startups are completed and Evolution has
fetched the latest mail. Obviously, xchat-gnome can't do anything until
the network connections are made. I would like to set the xchat-gnome
gui to start at about the same time it is about to make its automatic
network and channel connections.
'Sessions' used to have a tab in which you could use 'nice' as a timing
control.
I have looked in init.d and various rc.ds for a clue but no luck.

bluez under KDE-Fedora 10
by Timothy Murphy
How does one exchange bluetooth PINs in Fedora 10?
Apparently bluez-utils (which used to contain bluez-pin)
has disappeared, as has hcid.conf.
I tried Kdebluetooth4, but it didn't appear to do anything
as far as I could see.
When I try to connect to my bluetooth phone,
I'm asked on the phone for a PIN,
and when I give it I see in /var/log/messages
that it is sent to the computer:
------------------------------------------
Feb 22 01:27:13 mary bluetoothd[5101]:
pin_code_request (sba=00:15:83:BF:45:E8, dba=00:0F:DE:7B:1D:B5)
------------------------------------------
at which point I would have thought I should receive a message
on the computer asking for the PIN.
