A very good PCI Wireless card for Fedora/Linux
by Jim
Sabrent 802.11N PCI-802N , two antennas,
When I purchased this card it drove me crazy determining which Linux
driver that was for this card.
RT2860sta driver, I have it in a bedroom in a PC that couldn't get a
100% signal to it from a Linksys router, but with this card it gave me a
100% signal. And it doesn't shut down.
Copy and Paste the model above into Google search and find locations
that sell it.
I don't have any connections to anyone that make or sell it, I just want
to pass on to the info to Fedora/Linux users that have need of a PCI
wireless card.

Thanks Boris, I use F12 on my Laptop and I want run some VM for test new
version of distro.
Now I use qemu-kvm but each machine use 30/40% of CPU of host system.
I want use XEN to see if it works better...
I have found this note:
http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/rhel-centos-xen-virtualization-installation...
But if I run "yum install xen virt-manager kernel-xen" this is the
output:

]$ glxinfo: “Error: glXCreateContext failed”
by Bill Case
Hi;
Just to clarify things.
I have the above error when I checked glxinfo after I tried Susyem =>
Preferences => Desktop Effects and got this warning
"Accelerated 3D graphics is not available
Desktop effects require hardware 3D support."
I googled and got the fallowing advice:
"The following needs to be present in the xorg.conf file:
Section "Files"
ModulePath "/usr/lib64/xorg/modules/extensions/nvidia"
ModulePath "/usr/lib64/xorg/modules"
EndSection"
My xorg.conf contains:
# nvidia-xconfig: X configuration file generated by nvidia-xconfig
# nvidia-xconfig: version 1.0 (mockbuild@) Sun Nov 22 21:04:19 EST
2009
# Xorg configuration created by livna-config-display
Section "Files"
ModulePath "/usr/lib64/xorg/modules"
EndSection
I can add the ModulePath "/usr/lib64/xorg/modules/extensions/nvidia"
manually. But as the advice is dated April 2009, is it out of date
(i.e. for versions earlier than F12)?
Shouldn't this type of configuration be added by some program or package
automatically? I have the "nVidia Display Settings" gui. Shouldn't
there be a way to set this configuration through that?
I am running a GeForce 9500 GT on a PCIe Bus and a rpmfusion nvidia
driver as part of a Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU system.

Blocking auto-update of Kernel
by James Allsopp
Hi,
Is there an option to stop the F12 auto-update system updating my
kernel. I want to avoid a situation where my kernel gets updated but
there isn't a matching Madwifi rpm in the repositories?
Best regards

F12 and CUPS (Epson Aculaser C4000)
by Luc MAIGNAN
Hi,
before F12 i didn't have any problems to configure my Epson Aculaser
C4000 with CUPS. Unfortunaly, with F12 it doesn't work.
The recommended driver doesn't work (my printer doesn't seem to like PS)
and when I use my previous PPD file, it says to me that there is no filter.
Anyone has an idea ?

Nouveau driver with nvidia dual head
by Kirk Lowery
I just installed Fedora 12 using the LiveCD. It discovered my nvidia and
samsung hardware with the dual monitors. In particular, it stretched the
default desktop background across both screens. All was well.
Until I rebooted. Then, when I logged in, the desktop background was no
longer stretched across both monitors, but each monitor had its own complete
copy. Everything else works right: all windows stretch across the monitors
as one large desktop.
I've played around with all the settings, googled for the problem, no joy. I
even installed the livna kmod drivers and they would only recognize one
monitor. Besides, the LiveCD did TheRightThing(tm), so it ought to work.
Any suggestions on how I might proceed?

no sound from wrapped macro-media flash player
by Ralph Blach
Please excuse the previous post in html. Seamonkey did not ask me to
choose between html and plain text
Anyway, I have installed macro-media flash, and it works fine, except
there is not sound.
This worked great on when I wrapped on fedora 10.
Any suggestions?

slow boot for latest fedora kernel 2.6.31.9-174.fc12.x86_64
by James Bridge
Upgraded this evening and the system seemed broken but did start the
boot process after about 2 minutes. All normal thereafter. It doesn't
make any difference if I boot to level 3. After leaving the boot menu,
the screen simply displays a single underline character and nothing
happens at all for 2 min. Then things get underway at normal speed.
Previous kernel is still installed and boots up quite normally.
Any ideas? Anyone else getting the same behaviour? I use the nvidia
drivers but they are up to date and in any case shouldn't be used for a
level 3 boot.

how to increase the number of cirtual desktops?
by Robert P. J. Day
i'm embarrassed to ask this, but how does one increase the number of
virtual desktops in f12? used to be there were 4, but with f12, after
a fresh install, there's only 2 and i've poked around under
System->Prefs and don't see a setting for that.
