I fully understand what caused this.
My next question would be : "what would happen if such a helper program
for every small lanquage were included in the same way?"
A better solution is needed for this kind of things.
Henk
*Hi All,
Having been bitten several times by Yum's ideas of "what depends on what", I agree with Henk. If I have 2 (as far as I can see & understand) independent, stand-aloneable programs eg Cups & Firefox, it ought to be possible for me to remove either without automatically taking out the other - no, I've never even thought of the work that must go into something like that!!!!
Isn't it possible to define some sort of "connector" between user & helper programs, at a different level than say between elements which MUST be present to function?? The other day, I went to yumex to see what was waiting for update... amongst them was bluez (which I thought I'd removed back at installation time); in the thought "don't use it, don't need it, bin it", I cleared the tick on the bluez installed line, clicked process & was rewarded by a suggestion to take out about 90% of my system (again)! I cannot really imagine that "everything" DEPENDS on bluez to function!
OK, I'll go downtown & get me soapbox set up on the corner! ;-))
Cheers
Dave
PS Sorry if this comes out in overdone Bold face - I haven't found out what (un)causes some of the messages in the digests to be greyed out......

Intel 915GM dual screen (1280x1024 and 1024x768)
by Valent Turkovic
Hi,
I'm running Fedora 9 and Fedora 10 Linux (prerelase) on IBM R52 laptop
with Intel 915GM video chip.
I'm now using only one monitor - external 19" Samsung, but I would
like if possible to also use laptop's screen.
Is it possible to setup dual screen with external moninitor as main
monitor with resolution of 1280x1024 and laptop's monitor as secundary
monitor (1024x768).
I have been trying this using xrandr and also with configuring
xorg.conf but with no success :(
If got the logic right I need one virtual screen with size of
2304x1024 (1280+1024). Laptop would be left to the main 19" external
monitor so I need to have main monitor use offset of 1024 pixels. Have
I made some wrong conclusions?
One thing is really puzzling me - and that is maximal virtual screen I
see from xrandr output:
Screen 0: minimum 320x200, current 1280x1024, maximum 2048x1024
So is it even possible to do dual screen with these resolutions on
Intel 915GM? Why? How?
Cheers,
Valent.

sendmail
by Amadeus W.M.
I want to be able to send email from my home computer to the outside
world. I want to do that from a script, when certain events happen, so I
can't use graphical clients like evolution. I have to use mail with
sendmail or a replacement as postfix or qmail. Since sendmail comes by
default with fedora, I thought I'd start with that.
My provider is verizon fios, and I do not have a static IP (although it
only changes if I reboot the router), nor a fully qualified domain name. I
also have a dyndns account, only the free dns service though, nothing
else.
I imagine I have to configure my sendmail to forward the email to
verizon's mail server. I got some inspiration from Evolution and from this
guide:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Docs/Drafts/AdministrationGuide/Servers/
MailServer/Sendmail
Besides the defaults, in sendmail.mc I have
define(`SMART_HOST', `outgoing.verizon.net')dnl
and
MASQUERADE_AS(`verizon.net')dnl
FEATURE(masquerade_envelope)dnl
FEATURE(allmasquerade)dnl
I did
echo "test" | /usr/sbin/sendmail amadeus84(a)verizon.net
It bounced back:
The original message was received at Thu, 6 Nov 2008 22:38:19 -0500
from phoenix [127.0.0.1]
----- The following addresses had permanent fatal errors -----
<amadeus84(a)verizon.net>
(reason: 550 5.7.1 Authentication Required)
which makes sense. How do I tell sendmail to send my verizon password
along with the email?
Thanks!

How to remove unused dependency
by Roman
Hi All!
I`m recently switched from debian based distro to fedora. And I want to
ask, how can I remove unused dependencies ? Eg if I want to install
wesnoth, it wants to install SDL_image, SDL_mixer, SDL_net and libmikmod
as dependencies on my system. But when I later remove wesnoth all deps
are in place. My question is about how to remove such unneeded deps
automatically or not.
Thanks

Mouse Issues after latest security updae
by Kevin Kempter
Hi All;
I'm running Fedora9 and KDE 4.2 within Vmware on a mac. It was working
great, then today at some point I let it install a new security update
(or maybe a couple). It was still fine till I rebooted.
Now I can't click on the F-menu any longer at all. I can click the
programs on the plasma panel only. Once I open a program if I click
any of the menus like the file or edit menu the menu shows up for a
second and immediately goes away. Trying to click on the F-menu does
the same thing.
Any Ideas how to fix ?
Thanks in advance.

dell gx520 with fc9 won't wake up
by Dave Burns
I just installed fc9 on a dell gx520, fc6 was on it before and worked
fine. I installed from the live cd, while installing the screen went
to sleep and I could not wake it. I tried again from the beginning and
got through the install, rebooted, turned off services and was doing a
yum install when it again went to sleep and ignores input from mouse &
keyboard. It will ping, but I'd turned off ssh so can't log in that
way.
I googled around and searched the archives, nothing relevant. Or maybe
I'm using the wrong terms.
Any clues you can toss me?
Thanks,
Dave

kdesvn-1.2.1 on F9 and Quanta
by Anthony Joseph Messina
After upgrading to kdesvn-1.2.1 on F9, I noticed that the libkdesvnpart.la
file is not part of the upgraded package, rendering the Quanta/kdesvn
integration useless.
As this is a feature that I use frequently, is there a configuration change I
need to make or another perhaps "compatibility" package I need to use to
allow F9's Quanta to continue to use the kde svn features?
Thanks for the input. -Anthony
