FC on gateway mx6421?
by Robert P. J. Day
can anyone give me pros and/or cons on trying to run FC on a gateway
MX6421? nothing in depth, just something like "yeah, the installation
went fairly smoothly and it recognized all the devices," or "holy
crap, there's no way you can FC on that piece of junk!" thanks.
rday
p.s. i am, of course, googling for such info but it's always nice to
hear it personally.

Slow Hard Drive?
by Srikanth Konjarla
All,
I am running FC6 (with latest update, 64-bit) on AMD Dual Core with 1GB
RAM. It contains a SATA hard disk. I am experience sluggishness when
files are opened or closed (saved). I suspect that i have slow SATA
performance even though i am not sure. I have following stats.
# hdparm -Tt /dev/sda
/dev/sda:
Timing cached reads: 2452 MB in 2.00 seconds = 1226.48 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 86 MB in 3.03 seconds = 28.35 MB/sec
I am concerned about 28.35 MB/Sec speed here.
# hdparm -i /dev/sda

got the "Intel 82801G ICH7 Family" sound card to work.
by Todd Warner
I have a T60 widescreen laptop with this soundcard:
Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition
Audio Controller (rev 02)
That audio device, though supposedly supported, will not work out of
the box for many distributions I found out after smashing my head
against the wall for some time.
Well, I got it working and filed a bug because the hack shouldn't be necessary:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=222606
I thought I would share in case anyone else has had that problem, and
from the looks of it, a lot of folks are running into this. So... this
is what I did:
1. I ensured my box has the latest alsa
2. I added these two lines to /etc/rc.local:
modprobe -r snd_hda_intel
modprobe snd_hda_intel
Reboot and sound should work.

Please help: yum and bi-arch installation problem On fedora core
by Robinson Tiemuqinke
Hi,
we found a problem when using yum to install/upgrade
packages on x86_64 platform, potentially for PPC and
other platforms as well. The problem is: when yum
installs a package, it installs .i386 version package
as well.
The problem is not a issue when running yum
interactively, since we can always put a .<archName>'
to the package to filter out .i386 version. But it
poses a big problem for automatic yum operations with
comps.xml.
In default and custom/own comps.xml, only packages'
names are allowed to be included, no
version/release/arch information can be coded in. So,
when using yum to install/upgrade system. annoying
i386 version packages are installed unintentionally.
Any one know an solution to this annoying issue?
Thanks.
Have a great weekend.

just purchased it and loathe Vista. I already run FC6 on my desktop,
but want to make sure that I won't have any crazy stumbling blocks with
putting it on my lappy.
Thanks in advance.

by Tom Poe
Monitor died. Have an old compaq presario, but when booting to FC5,
level 5, it only gets as far as clock, then goes black. I need help to
find steps to boot to new monitor? Any help appreciated. I'm thinking
I have to manually enter something when boot starts, right?

FC6 installation problems with DPT PM3334UW and eata driver
by Dennis Charville
I am trying to install FC6 on a machine with a DPT Raid controller with a
model number PM3334UW. During the install it does find any hard drives to
install on. It appears that the raid card uses the EATA driver which does
not look like it is compiled into the standard install kernel.
Can someone provide me some guidance on how to get the kernel to recognize
the raid controller during install?
Thank you,
Dennis Charville

Problems with icons in gnome-themes-extras
by Alfredo Ferrari
Hi
I installed gnome-themes-extras from extras on a couple of FC6 machines.
Surprisingly they don't work properly, many of the icons (ie the main menu
one, those for the volume manager and others) stay at the default gnome
ones. This is not the behaviour one can observe on a FC5 system and
is effectively making the package broken
Any hints?
Thanks
Alfredo
