With a Sony T7, which can be used either as a mass storage (default), or
via PTP, I click on "mounted camera" and then
I choose "Directory Browse", and set the path to "/media/disk"

Well, I think I spoke too early:-( After a couple of hours the problem
with the IDE drives showed up even with the combined_mode=libata kernel
option. I think this is just a problem of the controller driver.

Alberto

Re: KVM switch problem
by Michael Klinosky
I have 2 others that work well.
I used a Startech 2 port to switch between a Windows box and a linux
box. I currently have a 4 port unit that apparently doesn't have a brand
name. It's purple, has 1 button to switch, and its model# is KVM-104
(info sheet also mentions KVM-102).

Zod Install Failure on Dell PC w Intel/82865G Video
by Jeff G
Not sure it's due to adapter, but I continually get a failure with new
installation on Dell Desktop when it gets to trying to load

it says installating xorg-x11-drivers-7.1-3i386 (0 bytes) <note: 0 bytes>

It says package not found either missing or corrupt.
Anyone have any ideas?

digikam usage
by Gene Heskett
Greetings;
I have always treated my Olympus C3020z as a usb storage device, mounting
it as /mnt/camera or in the case if FC6, /media/camera, from whereever it
showed up in the logs when I plugged it in and turned it on. Lately its
been a race to get the pix out of it before the thing did an auto-off
because if you don't clean the battery contacts in the camera, and the
batteries aren't above 1.48 volts, it won't live long enough to go
through all the rigmarole it takes to get it mounted & copy the pix back
out of it, keeping in mind it has the infamous vfat bug that causes all
images beyond the current sector of the directory structure to disappear
if all the files in that sector have been deleted.
Anyway, I just screwed around with digikam this afternoon after seeing
some glowing reports about it, long enough to kill two sets of AA cells,
without getting digikam to actually access the camera, or display the
thumbnails of the images already in the directory I had it pointed to.
I wound up using mc as usual, to move the images to my hard drive, in
reverse order of course.
If digikam is so great, why does everything stay ghosted out regardless of
what I do? The menu's apparently assume everything is preconfigured I
guess, but they are not exactly intuitive, and no errors are ever
reported ANAICT. Like when I selected my camera make & model from the
list, and the usb dot is checked, does it report it can't scan '/', which
isn't the path to the camera. And when I select "mounted camera" and
verify by other means its mounted and visible, it still can't find it.
So please, someone who is familiar with it, whats step one, which is to
get it to see the 3GB of pictures in jpeg format that are already stored
there in the path I give for the so called "album"?

Unable to read audio CDs
by Wil Cooley
Ever since upgrading my home workstation to FC6 (it's been a while now), I
have been unable to read audio CDs, with either grip, the graphical CD
player, xmms w/the CD player plugin or Nautilus. (Grip is the main thing
I need it for; the others were just testing.) I can mount and read
ISO9660 CDs and DVDs just fine and I can burn just fine. The kernel logs
this message:
kernel: cdrom: This disc doesn't have any tracks I recognize!
I have the usual kernel modules loaded:
ide_cd 42337 2
cdrom 38625 1 ide_cd
The drive is identified as: AOPEN DUW1616/ARR, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive.
The only thing slightly funny about this is that my CD/DVD drive is the
slave on a single PATA/IDE bus, with my hard drive being the master
(newfangled motherboards are shipping with only 1 PATA/IDE channel,
expecting people to use SATA for drives). I cannot imagine that should be
an issue, because the device works normally with ISO disks.
Has anyone seen anything like this?

They're going to keep "whaling" on this until they beat it into submission.

OT: Python, Zope and Pone (RHEL v4)
by Jamie Bohr
Hello,
My department has chosen Plone as a CMS tool. We already have a RHEL V4
server we would like to host this on. RHEL V4 comes with Python 2.3.4,
Plone requires Zope which requires Python 2.4.3. I could not find an RPM
package for it, so before I compile and install it I was going to remove
Python 2.3.4; there are tons of dependences I would rather not remove. I
don't want to mess up this system because it is a production server (used
very little) and looking for guidance on how to proceed. Should I install
yum and point it to some Fedora sources for Python, Zope and Plone? Is
there a source out there for newer Python, Zope and Plone that I did not
find (I googled for them)?
I would like to install all the packages by RPM, makes it easier to track
what is installed on a system.
Thank you,
