Removing package and its dependencies
by Paul Smith
Dear All
Is there some way to remove a certain package and its dependencies?
Yum seems to be able to remove only the specified package.
Thanks in advance,
Paul

gcc 3.4.X for FC5 ?
by Chris Jones
Hi,
I've been working for a while now on a FC5 box with a project that requires
gcc 3.2.X - I have been able to do this using the compat rpms that provide
the gcc 3.2.3 compiler as "gcc32" etc.
This project is soon to update to gcc 3.4.5 (because they are upgrading from
EL3 to EL4 and they use the default compilers on these platforms) and thus I
need to be able to use gcc 3.4.5 as well.
Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find an equivalent of the compat rms for
gcc 3.4.5 ... Does anything exist providing this, or am I just going to have
to compiler the compiler myself from scratch ?
cheers Chris

Could you also post a description of your network topology? Something like:
(ISP) <-> Your Router <-> Possible switch or hub <-+-> The linux box
|
+-> Box that works
Mainly, just need to know which box does NAT or if you're swapping
cables so only one box is on-line at any one time.
Cheers,
Dave

Re: Tomcat setup

Do you have the local (iptables) firewall running? If so that could be blocking it. Try running:
service iptables stop
Then see if you can connect.

Question on using projector with Dell Inpiron 6000 & FC5...
by Guillermo de Jesús Hoyos Rivera (gmail)
Dear listers:
I want to make a presentation using a projector. I have FC5,
installed in a Dell Inspiron 6000.
I have tried configuring the double monitor facility, and connecting
a PC monitor to my laptop (both, while the computer is on, and turning on
the computer with the monitor attached to it), and I have had no success.
I have also tried by configuring single monitor in my FC5
installation, and turning on the computer with the monitor attached to it.
Same results.
Finally I have naively tried to use the Fn+F8 key combination (to
redirect the output of the display in Windows). None of the previously
stated tries worked.
Does some one of you know how to do this?
Thanks in advance and best regards.
Guillermo Hoyos.

I'm only familiar with syslog but there are typically four steps to
setting up a remote logging facility:
1) On the device that you want to have remotely log you need to tell it
about the server that will be doing the logging. This usually means
setting the host and the logging facility (numeric) to use.
2) On the server that will be doing the logging, edit syslog.conf and
add an entry that maps logging data received on the above numeric
facility to a log file. If you chose facility 5 this will look
something like:
local5.* /var/log/switch.log
3) Also on the server, you need to enable remote logging in
/etc/sysconfig/syslog. See the posting I'm responding to, above.
4) Restart the syslog service on the server.
