How to use Apache 2 with HTTPS only?
by Vinicius
Hello,
I'm using FC5 and Apache 2. Apache 2 is using SSL, but I would like to
serve only HTTPS.
How to use Apache 2 with HTTPS only, please?
A snippet of my ssl.conf:
"
<VirtualHost _default_:443>
SSLEngine on
SSLOptions +StrictRequire
<Directory />
SSLRequireSSL
</Directory>
</VirtualHost>
"
TIA,
Vinicius.

yum - mysql upgrade/install
by bruce
hi.
i'm trying to configure yum, (if possible) to upgrade/install mysql from the
current FC4 version to mysql-5.0.22.
i can get the mysql RPM from pbone, but i was wondering if i can set yum up
so that yum automatically finds the rpm, and handles the dependency issues.
i've tried to create a yum repos file, but yum seems to complain that it
can't find the 'repodata/repomd.xml' file...
two questions:
-does anyone have a successful repos file for pbone/mysql
that i can take a look at.
-if i simply download the RPM, how can i point yum to the
rpm, so that yum goes ahead and handles the installation
and the resolving of the dependency issues..
thanks
-bruce

beagle question
by Amadeus W.M.
I'm trying out beagle, to see what it can do, and I configured
it to index my home directory, where I have among many things
about 8G of images downloaded from my digital camera. I'm
doing a search after "img" and most of those images have the
form img_1234.jpg. Beagle does not find a single one of those,
but it does find some img43.gif (from the gimp manual), and
a few other img??.gif. So I thought maybe it doesn't search the
name, but the contents. I do a
strings img43.gif | grep img
and nothing.
Thus beagle finds img43.gif because img is in its name (not in
its contents), but it doesn't find millions of img*.jpg.
What gives?

Re: gnome vs vpnclient
by Jack Howarth
Scot,
I believe the hosts file simply has...
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
since it is configured with dhcp. I will have to check the nsswitch.conf
tomorrow but I assume it will be okay if it is...
hosts: files dns
However when I open a terminal, the prompt always shows the hostname as a
dhcp domainname (changing according to what I am given by dhcp). Are you
suggesting that I don't want to see that but want the hostname to be localhost
if I am using dhcp in order to prevent vpn from confusing gnome?

cpu frequencies
by Tobias Bocanegra
hi,
i have a intel dual core t2700 with 2.16ghz.
vendor_id : GenuineIntel
cpu family : 6
model : 14
model name : Genuine Intel(R) CPU T2600 @ 2.16GHz
stepping : 8
the files in /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq say:
affected_cpus:0
cpuinfo_cur_freq:1667000
cpuinfo_max_freq:2167000
cpuinfo_min_freq:1000000
scaling_available_frequencies:2167000 1667000 1333000 1000000
scaling_available_governors:userspace performance
scaling_cur_freq:1667000
scaling_driver:centrino
scaling_governor:userspace
scaling_max_freq:1667000
scaling_min_freq:1667000
scaling_setspeed:1667000
now, i try to set 2.17 ghz, but it always stays at 1.7:
echo 2167000 > scaling_setspeed
# cat cpuinfo_cur_freq
1667000
i tried every possible combination, and also other cpu frequency tools
like cpufreqd and cpufreq-set
funny enough, it worked suddenly once 2 days ago...but i can't figure
out what was different. i guess, it's either some chipset-internal
regulation, or some cpu daemon running.
has anyone some advice?

OT: knowledgebase application
by Jamie Bohr
I am looking for a simple knowbase application to use for my IT department
at work. Right now we are looking at phpbb which is good but I not too sure
how good of a knowledge base it would make. I have googled around but would
like some opinions from you all.
Thank you,

Fedora 4 update trouble
by Chris Thomas
I would like the relevant people to know that the Fedora 4 update
procedure does not work. It always seems to hang or slow to almost a
halt when downloading 'cups.libs-1.1.25-5.14.rpm'. I think something is
happening but it is so slow that nothing useful is taking place.
Thanks,
Chris Thomas.
