Where is gdm-xnest?
by Bill Case
Hi;
In gnome 2.10 (FC4) I had a facility/launcher that allowed me to nest a
second user while I was already logged in as the first user. I can't find
it in Gnome 2.14 (FC5). If it has been removed --ahhh!? I used to use it a
lot.

X86_64
by Bernhard Frühmesser
Hello,
A friend gave me his FC 4 x86_64 CDs to test Fedora Core out on my dual
Intel Xeon box (64bit)
So far installation went fine, but now the mouse does no longer work at
all.
The mouse is connected to the ps/2 port on the mainboard and is a 3
button wheel mouse.
I have checked /dev/input
where i have mice, mouse0 and event0
After that i changed /etc/sysconfig/mouse to use /dev/input/mice and
restarted gpm but no mouse at all.
After that i used /dev/input/mouse0 instead and restarted gpm again,
and again no mouse
So neither on the console nor under X i have mouse support.
Any ideas?
BF.

FC5 Remote X-Window Server Configuration
by Bill Polhemus
Though I haven't had much need for it for awhile now (really since back
in the days of FC2), I would like to be able to remotely connected to my
FC5 server using a Windows X application (e.g. http://www.labf.com/).
The older "recipes" I had for setting up the Linux server to permit this
seems stale now, probably because of the more to Xorg from XFree86. For
whatever reason, I simply can't get this to work.
Could anyone point me in the direction of some updated instructions on
how to configure this?

Shrinking a partition
by Colin Paul Adams
I need to shrink a disk partition in order to fit the iso images on a
new partition.
I have used resize2fs to shrink my /usr filesystem from 20G to 15G (it
was only using 10G). This reported that it is now 3932160 4K blocks in
size.
How can I shrink the partition to match it, so as to free space for a
new partition? The resize2fs man page saya I can use fdisk to do this
but it doesn't say how. The sizes fdisk reports are clearly not 4k
blocks as they do not match the figures (it shows 27823288 as the
partition size). And I can't find a command to shrink the partition anyway.

Yum logs & logwatch
by John Summerfield
I've noticed on FC3 that I'm getting bogus reports of yum activity from
logwatch.
The problem is that
1. Yum logs are not rotated. This is fine by me, they are not likely to
become very large.
2. The date in yum logs doesn't include the year.
The result is that logwatch does not, cannot distinguish April 1 2005
from April 1 2006, and so reports previous years' update avtivity on its
anniversary.
Now that I know the reason for the bogus reports I'm not going to bother
with it further, but perhaps users of releases of FC that are officially
supported could check this out and report if it it's a continuing bug?
The fix _I_ would prefer is to include the year in the log entries' date
and for logwatch to include they year in its date comparisons.
At 25K, my yum log isn't big enough to warrant rotating it.

how to use v4l / em2820 | em2840
by Mihamina Rakotomandimby
Hi,
I just bougth a Pinnacle Dazzle DV90 USB device:
http://www.mwave.com/mwave/skusearch.hmx?SCriteria=3491061&CartID=done&ne...
It is known to work on Linux:
http://www.linuxhq.com/kernel/v2.6/15/Documentation/video4linux/CARDLIST....
The problem... I did not find any documentation about how to use the
module, to acquire some video + audio with this device.
- I should load em2820
- What others modules have I got to load too?
- Then what command line to perform to save the capture to a file?
( what is the /dev/foo/bar? ....)
I dont use any particular distribution for the moment, but ask to all
the MLs.
Thank you for your help.
The reply-to is set to me first but I will merge all the information
into a tutorial if I get ver it.
