Rd:KDE desktop email and konqueror
by Edward Beranek
Thanks Rex,
When I saw that label I thought it was really the kdepim
package which does include some security, but is not the
main part for kde. Guess this will include all personal information
from now on. Never saw this stuff without the crypto plugin
which the konqueror and kmail used along with the pim.
I had tried the kde wallet and gnpg, but neither had done the
trick. I'll try that keychain app. which that bugzilla link hints at.
I admit that alot of that bugzilla link discussion is over my head,
since it's difficult to follow the referents. Hope what I thought
I understood to be the answer, is what I'm writing about here.
( my original understanding was reference http://www.kdepim.org )

Mailman port RH7.3/2.0.13 to FC4/2.1.5/Exim4
by Gary Stainburn
Hi folks
I'm trying to port my existing mailman setup to my new server. I've made note
of the change of filesystem layout and followed the instructions for
connecting to Exim4. I've configured Apache and the web interface to
mailman's working fine.
However, I've got two possibly related problems.
1) starting the new service fails as below:
[root@stan1 ~]# service mailman start
Starting mailman: Site list is missing: mailman
[FAILED]
[root@stan1 ~]#
In /var/log/mailman/error it shows:
[root@stan1 ~]# tail -f /var/log/mailman/error
Dec 12 22:42:15 2005 mailmanctl(5556): Site list is missing: mailman
Dec 12 22:42:15 2005 (5556) Site list is missing: mailman
2) sending emails doesn't work. I've configured exim4 as described (fixing the
path problem to the config.pck). I've included the bits I've added as well as
the extract from /var/log/exim/main.log that shows the incoming email being
processed. There are no other log entries however, not in messages,
main.log, or mailman/error.
[root@stan1 ~]# tail -f /var/log/exim/main.log

Is 64 bit Fedora OK? With which CPU?
by dondi_2006
Hello,
I have to buy a new PC for my desktop. I want to run
Fedora on it, because I already know it well from University.
But I am not sure if it is OK to go with a 64 bit CPU or stick
to 32 bit ones.
What are right now, if any, the limits I encounter in using
Fedora or FOSS in general, if I buy a 64 bit CPU?
I have not found very recent information, and what I found reinforced
these doubts. For example, http://lwn.net/Articles/113741/ said:
>Given the extra overhead in terms of disk space and memory usage while
>running two "editions" of the same libraries, as well as the limited
>number of third-party RPMs, is there a case for running a 64-bit Fedora >Core? In other words, are there any advantages of running a 64-bit system
>on a 64-bit processor, as opposed to running a 32-bit system on a 64-bit
>processor? As always, it depends. Unfortunately, it seems that right now,
>and for the majority of users, the disadvantages outweigh the benefits.
Is this still true today, or with next Fedora 5? What are the traps still there with openoffice, java, kernel graphic drivers, flash, kde, gnome,
whatever?
Also, if there are no traps, what 64 bit CPU do you recommend from the
power efficiency point of view? Lower wattage, possibility to run slower
when not doing heavy stuff....?
Thanks,
Webber

sound configuration setup failure
by jackc
hi fc folks,
i have been using RH 3.0 WS on my dell (dim 2300) for the last yr with
sound working fine using the ...
ac97_codec 17100 0 [i810_audio]
driver.
after the FC4 install, its trying to use the
snd_intel8x0 33769 2
snd_ac97_codec 63889 1 snd_intel8x0
snd_pcm_oss 49017 0
snd_mixer_oss 17985 2 snd_pcm_oss
snd_pcm 96841 2 snd_intel8x0,snd_pcm_oss
snd_timer 29893 1 snd_pcm
snd_page_alloc 9673 2 snd_intel8x0,snd_pcm
snd_mpu401_uart 8769 1 snd_intel8x0
snd_rawmidi 26597 1 snd_mpu401_uart
snd_seq_device 8137 1 snd_rawmidi
snd 54949 11
snd_intel8x0,snd_ac97_codec,snd_pcm_oss,snd_mixer_oss,snd_pcm,snd_timer,snd_mpu401_uart,snd_rawmidi,snd_seq_device
soundcore 9889 2 snd
as this driver aint happening, how do i tell fc4 to lose the
snd_intel8x0 and start using the i810_audio driver?

rc.sysinit, load keymap
by Mihamina Rakotomandimby
Hi,
I would like to load a keymap a friend sent me over Internet.
I had a look at the /etc/rc.sysinit
It check for the existence of a default.kmap file.
If it exists, it is supposed to load and use it.
By default, on my system it does not exist.
The problem is when I create it and make it the same as the file the
friend sent to me, it is not loaded.
The keymap is changed, but changed to another one I dont know (a qwerty
one).
My keyboard is an azerty.
I need the keyboard map because the embeded one is buggy under Emacs
(M-w and so on...) and I dont use X on that machine.

Re: setting up 2 dvd's
by George Hare
Thanks for replying Kenny. I did not run Kudzu, but I have the same
/etc/fstab entries as you.
/dev/hdd /media/cdrecorder auto
pamconsole,exec,noauto,managed 0 0
/dev/hdc /media/cdrecorder1 auto
pamconsole,exec,noauto,managed 0 0
I use gnome and when I check my Hardware Browser, the Benq is listed
there as well.
