Re: Hardware Problem, Best Way to Diagnose
by Kevin
Also open the lid and check the capacitors on the
mainboard, if the tops loog bulged, cracked, or popped
open, they need replacing. This is getting more &
more common now that computers are staying on for
longer periods. I have replaced many a popped cap,
this mainboard I on now has been fixed 5 times. The
symptoms are random crashes, lockups, and file
corruption. It is usually the 2200s or 3300s around
the CPU.

Last time I kept getting unexplained errors and crashes, I eventually found a
screw dropped behind the motherboard!
Advice I've been given, is to check your power supply. I'm told that the
voltage provided by cheap power supplies can be a bit unstable, which of
course causes problems. So instead of spending £15 on a power supply I spent
£50, and bought a UPS as well.

root's email address - how to change?
by tonydm
Hi all,
I need to change the email address for the root user. The email address
configured for the root user is pointing to a subdomain of the website
on the server. Don't know why I did it that way when I installed FC3,
but I need to change it so that my log monitor is emailing the reports
to the correct address. Did a search on Google, but either overlooked
the solution, or didn't find one. Thanks

Wireless connectivity NOT resolved
by Richard S. Crawford
I thought it was resolved, but it turned out the WAP had not restored WEP
encryption like I thought it had. So, the wireless card works fine with WEP
turned off, but not when it's turned on. I've tried:
# iwconfig wlan0 key XXXXXXXXXX restricted
which generates this error:
Error for wireless request "Set Encode" (8B2A):
SET failed on device wlan0 ; Invalid argument.
My Googling indicates that this might mean that the card does not support
encryption, which I find unlikely since it certainly does under Windows.
I also tried:
# iwconfig wlan0 key 0xXXXXXXXXXX restricted
That generated no errors, but did not give me connectivity.

multiple networks in Fedora Core 3 on a laptop
by Didier Casse
Hello there!
I installed FC3 on a friend's laptop and realized
that FC3 adapts itself to one single network.
That means if we configure eth0 in his working place, then he gets
internet only in the working place and when he brings back his laptop
home to connect to his home network, FC3 freaks out at the point where
it displays "bringing eth0 ....". Same thing with the wireless eth1
connection. And in the end we don't get any internet.
Although I did specify to use a dhcp server!!!
I have never seen this problem before as I always fixed my pc in one
place and used a single network.
I'm sure there should be a way to tell FC to connect everywhere. How
do we do this? Thanks for te help.

Cheers,
Didier.

FC 3 and Sony Clie SL10/U
by Lorn Miller
I know these happen often, and I've searched through the archive, but I
can't find any info there (or on google) that's at all helpful. I'm
trying to connect a Sony Clie PEG-SL10/U to my FC 3 box. The Clie is
out-of-the-box clean. I try Kpilot's autodetect, but it times out. I'm
connecting through usb.
Clie OS: Palm OS software v.4.1
[ldmiller@phoenixdragon ~]$ rpm -q kernel
kernel-2.6.10-1.766_FC3
kernel-2.6.10-1.770_FC3
[ldmiller@phoenixdragon ~]$ rpm -qa | grep pilot
pilot-link-0.11.8-8
gnome-pilot-2.0.12-4
gnome-pilot-conduits-2.0.12-3
gnome-pilot-devel-2.0.12-4
pilot-link-devel-0.11.8-8
[ldmiller@phoenixdragon ~]$
I'm running kernel 2.6.10-1.770_FC3
Any more info I can give to help? Any solutions? I'd really hate to
have to boot into Windows to use the clie.

snapapi26
by RL
I need to load this module but I cannot find it anywhere in my kernel
config file, nor menuconfig. In 2.6.x kernels it's called
snapapi26.ko. I believe it's in block devices. I have kernel 2.6.11.
Thanks.
