Why is Ferdora listening?
by Dotan Cohen
When I reset the computer this morning, I discovered this waiting for me:
KWrited - listening on device /dev/pts/2
(this is a translation of the hebrew message that I got, original message here):
KWrited - מקשיב בהתקן /dev/pts/2
Is this something that should worry me? It just seems unusual that it
should be listening on anything. I'm on FC3 in kde, and I have a
script that automatically connects me to the internet when I turn it
on.
Thanks.

These later versions for the libraries are included in the development
reopsitories. There are a programs in FC3 that will break if you install
the newer version libraries to meet the dep requirements for the newer
vsftpd package.
It sounds like you might have bettr luck waiting for FC4 to make it out.
Mutt and up2date depend on the libraries you mentioned . ( *.so.4
versions for FC3)
]$ ls *.so.4
libcrypto.so.4 libssl.so.4
ls *.so.5
ls: *.so.5: No such file or directory

RE: strange iptables behavior
by Mike McGrath
-- sorry bout the last post, this one's got better formatting.
I've got an odd iptables issue going on. Here's the setup. Host A is
using mod_jk to connect to host B running a tomcat instance on port
9009. It will work fine for a while and then I start getting denies for
no reason. When the denies start happening, the website I'm trying to
bring up freezes in the middle of the page. If I click stop and reload
the page sometimes it will come up, sometimes it will not and I will
continue getting denies. Also when its in the middle of loading a page
and it freezes, if I flush all the iptables rules out the page will
load. I'm running Fedora Core 3 on both machines, Here are my iptables
rules:
