How do I start a second X server
by Rasmus Back
Hi all.
I have two graphic cards in my system and I'm trying to configure the
second card so that I can use its tv-out feature to play dvds on my
tv. Since I only watch movies once in while I'd like to be able to
start a second X server with a minimal window manager and specify the
server layout for the tv-out video card. Probably something like
"startx twm -- -layout tv-out :1".
I thought that the startx command would do it but it fails with the
error: /usr/X11R6/bin/xterm: bad command line option "twm". startx
without the "twm" option tries to start another gnome-session on vt8.
So, any suggestions?

not Re: yum exclude?
by Dave Stevens
OK OK OK I give up I can't read.
But on another note...
I recently installed a new 60 gig hard drive. I did this to overcome a
situation where I was rapidly running out of space through loading up /home.
The new drive is ext3 like the old one. The / drive is 38 gigs, there are
three partitions, boot, swap and root. I installed hdc and formatted it as
ext3 all one partition, so /dev/hdc1
I copied all of /home to the new drive, then mounted it as /home. This works
ok and gives me 30 gigs of new space. I want to release the space taken up by
the old /home directory, so I commented out the mount line in fstab and
rebooted, regaining access to the old /home. I used nautilus as root and
navigated to the /home directory and deleted all the contents. The directory
now shows up as empty, but df shows the space still in use. I'd like to get
that cleared up, the space would be worthwhile and the system runs like a dog
with 87% of the filesystem full.
I tried to set the reboot count to 400 so as to trigger a fsck on the next
reboot, but that hasn't changed anything.
Ideas?
Dave

MIDI editor
by Michael Sullivan
Does anyone know any freely downloadable MIDI editors for Linux? I've
got Cakewalk Pro Audio for Windows, but I don't like using Windows and
use it only when necessary. I like Cakewalk's sheet music-like
interface. I like being able to click on a particular area on the page
and have the currently selected musical note appear there. Are there
any products like this for Linux?

KDE applet for network traffic ?
by Hannes Mayer
Hi all!
Since I'm running FC I used GNOME, but now I take a look at
KDE. I've searched in the past and now again, but I can't
find a nice network monitor applet for KDE.
In GNOME I've got the standard one configured to show CPU
utilization and traffic over eth0.
Is there something similar for KDE ?
Thanks a lot!
Cheers,
Hannes.

Re: printer problems
by Richard Schmitt
Thanks to the person at Price technology for encouraging me to check the
printer drivers one more time. I had spent a good deal of time doing
that but there was one driver I had not tried and that was the one.
So now the printer works.
Thanks, Richard Schmitt

to clone or not to clone that is the question
by john brennan-sardou
hello everybody,
here is my question for the day. Being sick and tired of windows but forced
every now and then to use it, I have always put my faith in Ghost and it does
seem to save those really awful moments in ones computor life. Is there a
program under linux with which I can do the same thing? In other words can I
clone linux onto a DVD or not?
Thanks for everything,
John Brennan-Sardou
