Archaic MySQL
by Thomas Zehetbauer
Although Fedora does mostly include pretty recent packages even the
current development builds only include a rather archaic mysql-3.23.58-9
rpm. This does not seem to be a big problem because it is quite easy to
install an official build instead. However this cause several other
problems, most important the perl-DBD-MySQL-2.9003-4 fails due to
unsatisfied dependencies.

USB hotplug updfstab question
by Andrew Robinson
The Premise: I've got an external disk drive in a USB 2.0 enclosure that
I would like to have automatically mounted when I plug it into my FC1
computer. I seem to be up to the point of getting it automatically mounted.
Current State: Based on info I've found on this listserv, I added an
entry to updfstab.conf for the drive. That seems to work, as an entry is
created in the /etc/fstab file and a mount point is created in /mnt.
Digging a little further, I found a very nice message from Jason
Cortezzo, who seemed to point to the /etc/hotplug/usb/usb-storage
script. I created a script at that path and verified that it was
executed. Now the problem. updfstab does not seem to get run until
/etc/hotplug/usb/usb-storage is completed. I can sucessfully mount the
drive from the CLI at this point, but I would really like to automate
that step as well.
The Question: How do I automate the mounting of the drive?
Thanks!

Okay, I got demand-dial running, but now I can't get it to hangup on timeout
by Preston Crawford
I don't know how I did it, but while dialed up using wvdial and after
tweaking some config files I pulled up the network config and there was
my modem and my modem connection. So far, so good. But now I need to
figure out how to get the modem to actually hangup when it's supposed to
after X seconds. It just keeps dialed in. Is there any way to check
what's possibly trying to access the Internet and thus keeping it dialed
up?

Well I understand your logic on the way this should be interpreted. If
--class is only probing one particular class, IMHO, it *should* ignore
the other classes instead of thinking they're removed. Bill, is this
worthy of a bugzilla?

fc1 fubared
by Gene Heskett
I just installed FC! on a RH8.0 box, as an upgrade.
It overwrote all my 2.6 module utility's and I now have no networking, sysfs
or procfs.
What to I reinstall to fix this?

Hi!
Is it possible to use yum to install an rpm which is located locally and
have its dependencies resolved and installed from a remote repository?

RE: up2date hanging
by Steve Pyatt
I had this same issue. On top of about a dozen others just getting
started. I ran it several times before it seemed to get everything
correctly. The nice thing is once it is downloaded, it did not download
again. You might try running just a few of the packages instead of all
of them. It didn't seem to really matter though.

Subject: up2date hanging
Hi folks,
having got the network working I decided to run up2date.
Having taken most of yesterday downloading (102 updates) I left it
overnight.
This afternoon when I returned to it, the download had finished and it
needed me to click a button before proceeding (?).
I clicked about 4 hours ago and then sat watching the hourglass. The
hourglass is still spinning and it's time to go home again.
Two questions
1) should it take this long? (Celeron 700 with 120MB (8MB stolen by
graphics
card)
2) if I kill it and start again, will it a) do better next time, and b)
need to re-download everything.

Fedora 1 and Pine
by Ted Gervais
I am new to Fedora and am making head way with it since I upgraded to it
from RH9 3 days ago. Its getting to be nice but I just noticed tonight
that PINE doesn't come up. Instead I get the following:
pine: error while loading shared libraries:
libcom_err.so.3
cannot open shared object file
Do I have to install a new lib.. file? If so which one, and if not how
can I get around this error.
Anyone please..
