Search of archives working???
by Brian K Bonner
I've looked on the fedora-list-test, and fedora-list for information about
booting with the CD. I'm finding it difficult to find much with the
search facility at:
http://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-list/
I'll search on dosutils and it returns zero results. Yet, searching on
cdrom and boot yields several hits where one of them includes:
<snip>
If you are making a boot disk under windows and you have the ISO images
mounted to your CDROM DISC
then you can go into dosutils folder on the first disc <<<<<<<<<<<<<
Note this line
and use the rawritewin application to make a BOOT DISK on a 1.44MB floppy
disk. The bootdisk.img file is also located on the first CDROM
installation
disk.
</snip>
Any suggestions on effective ways to use this search?

Yes, the individual messages are saved to individual files, not by me though -
by the mail program.

No, it's not maildir.

FC2 on Intel 440GX (was FC1 on Intel 440GX)
by MW Mike Weiner (5028)
I was just wondering if the kind individuals that put together the 440GX
boot disk for FC/1 would consider doing one for FC/2 - or provide the
build instructions so that one can recreate a new one for FC/2. Any
word?
I used yum to upgrade the 440GX box FROM FC/1 TO FC/2 but I will run
into the installation problem again, soon. My hope was that the 440GX
Boot Disk would be updated in the near term.

DVD again
by Frío Polar
Hi all:
I'm using FC2 and everytime I put a DVD-RW on the DVD tray I have the
next log in /var/log/messages
May 31 18:22:11 iglu kernel: hdc: packet command error: status=0x51 {
DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
May 31 18:22:11 iglu kernel: hdc: packet command error: error=0x30
May 31 18:22:11 iglu kernel: ATAPI device hdc:
May 31 18:22:11 iglu kernel: Error: Medium error -- (Sense key=0x03)
May 31 18:22:11 iglu kernel: (reserved error code) -- (asc=0x57,
ascq=0x00)
May 31 18:22:11 iglu kernel: The failed "Read Cd/Dvd Capacity" packet
command was:
May 31 18:22:11 iglu kernel: "25 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
00 00 00 "
It's quite strange because on FC 1 all works fine and I'm still using
the same brand of DVD. I was googling and and try to disable autofs and
magicdev but all seems the same... What can I do in order to be able to
burn DVD on mi machine?

I have a Dell Latitude with an ATI Mobility Radeon that has the same
problem. My workaround, is to get to a command prompt, logon as a user
and then issue the startx command. Then I get the GUI without problems.
I am not sure why this works, but it's a workaround.
I did try commenting out the dri line but still had the same issue.
This laptop had no problems with FC1

Hi!
How can I use the kickstart in Fedora?
I have to configure the system in kickstart program.
Does it create a boot disc? Or how does it work?

It looks like you're trying to read a directory full of ISO CD-ROM
images instead of a directory of RPM packages. Either mount these
images via a loopback device, so you can see the actual contents of the
ISO's, or burn them to CD and copy the resulting RPM's back to disk.

problem with scsi cd writer
by Louis-Marius_Pineau@teluq.uquebec.ca
I recently upgraded my system to FC2 from RH9 (I actually reinstalled
everything from scratch) and I am having trouble making my scsi cd
writer to work. I am using xcdroast. when I try to add /dev/scd0 to the "add device manually" option, after a while, the system hang.
I repeated the process many time and I managed to get the content of dmesg before the system got completely locked up. Since I thought that
my symbios scsi adapter was a bit old (sym 53c875), I switched it with
an adaptec (aha2940uw) and end up with the same results but this time
the adaptec adapter wa a bit more verbose.
I know that the cd writer works fine because it worked prefectly on RH9.
I even put it on another system on which I had White Box Linux 3.0
installed and it do work perfectly.
What can I do to make my cd writer work?
here is what I get from the symbios logic controller:

Re: How to install FC2 from harddisk
by Mac
Aubrey.Lee,您好!
I've just tried out some excellent ways to install FC2 from ISO files from FAT-Formatted partitions. Now I share them to all who's interested in.
The main idea is to use the Linux Kernel-vmlinuz! The directory of FC2disk1/images/pxeboot is very useful(See README in the some directory)! OK, you can just follow my instructions below:
1, create a new directory named "install" (any you like).
2, copy the two files, "vmlinuz" and "initrd.img" in the "pxeboot"(just mentioned above), into the dir made in step 1.
3, copy a LOADLIN.EXE (for dos edtion, available in other distributions of linux) into the some dir.
4, in the some dir, create a Batch File named "install.bat" that contains this line:
loadlin vmlinuz initrd=initrd.img ramdisk_size=9216 %1 %2 %3 %4 %5 %6 %7 %8 %9
Now boot your system into DOS mode, enter the "install" directory, type "install" to run "install.bat" which could launch the installing process. Just follow the screen, and enjoy yourself!
