smallest possible installation.
by Tobias
hi,
newly i'm playing with fedora-core2-t1. so i've installed it:
- "linux text' on the bootprompt
- 'custom' for the Installation Type
- and for 'Package Group Selection' i've deselected all possibilities,
but there was no more options for deselect of any packages and these
'custom' installation was 537mb with many of unnecessary packages,
they must be removed manually... :(
is there a possibility to install in textmode a little, core installation
with network in order to install the rest we need over internet (i.e. yum, apt) ?
thx

Two RAID 0 questions
by Allan Metts
Hi all,
I want to maximize disk throughput by using Fedora's software RAID 0 on a
plain-jane single-processor machine with 7200 RPM IDE drives. Two
questions come to mind:
--1-- Do I need to put the two drives on separate controllers? Right now,
the CDROM drive is the master drive on the secondary controller. It seems
cleaner to me to put the two hard drives as master & slave on the primary
controller -- but am I sacrificing performance here?
--2-- Does RAID 0 require identical drive sizes and geometries like RAID 1
does? Or is it possible to span drives of differing sizes?
Thanks in advance,
Allan

Email Servers? Basic advise needed.
by Roger Grosswiler
Hi,
Postfix was also for me (also newbie) a good proposal, you get a (it is
always relative...) secure mailserver, if you follow some rules.
The proposal for the IMAP-accounts having mbox-format or maildirs wasn't
what pleased my needs, so i tried Cyrus, which is a blackbox-imap-server.
Further information you find in http://asg.web.cmu.edu/cyrus/imapd/ a
download in src.rpm for FC1 is at
http://www.invoca.ch/pub/packages/cyrus-imapd/ . As i have seen, the
Cyrus-Imap-Daemon is also included in FC2 Test 1, so i look forward
finding it also in the Stable-Release.
BTW if you have 1400 accounts, i could be your mailserver, it supports
also several types of authentication etc. an lmtp-transfer to the
mailboxes (supported as standard in postfix too..)

Errmmmm, it does a subset of what MaiScanner does.... Ignorance is bliss, I
guess.

RH ES2.1, how to upgrade to kernel 2.6?
by Adam Williams
Hi, I know this list is for fedora, but I don't know of an enterprise
mail list, and I figured some of you out there may run ES 2.1 and could
help. I have a server I need to upgrade to kernel 2.6 for >2GB file
size for samba file support. I recompiled from redhat 9 source rpms the
required things, except binutils, procps, and modutils won't compile
with rpmbuild --rebuild, they all error out. So I thought maybe I could
just download the RH9 binary rpms and install them, but it errors saying
failed dependancies, libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.3) required. RedHat ES 2.1 comes
with glibc 2.2.4, so I'm looking for some suggestions how to upgrade
these 3 packages so I can upgrade to kernel 2.6. any suggestions? Thanks!

Email Servers? Basic advise needed.
by Ron Henderson
Hello all,
I am looking at building my first Linux email system. I very
much would like to use Linux over windows/exchange for all the obvious
reasons. The Servers need to host @1400 pop3 accounts. I was wondering
if any of you could tell me if it is possible to cluster multiple mail
servers for redundancy/performance. What distro / mail server software
do you all recommend?
