Help needed with SanDisk CRUZER memory stick
by John Wendel
I just got a SanDisk CRUZER 256MB USB memory thingy. It no workey!
The USB is on a VIA 8235 chip if that matters.
Could some of you gurus take a look at these messages and give me a
clue about what I need to do to get this device working. I suspect
that I'm missing a module, but I can't figure out what I need.
Sorry about the size of this messages. I've trimmed out all the stuff
that seemed irrelevant, but I didn't want to lose something
important.
Thanks,
John

Drivers for Canon i850?
by Ben Ricker
I am trying to get CUPs to work with the Canon i850 but to no joy. I
found a program called Turboprint from Denmark that DOES support the
i850 with a driver which works with CUPs but they want $25. Just wanted
to see if there was any alternatives. Canon does not even MENTION the
i850.
Thanks,

I use gtoaster to record CDs, and in preparation for the incoming
transition to kernel 2.6, I wanted to remove the ide-ssci from my grub
configuration. But that didn't work with gtoaster. Anyone know if it is even
possible, and if there is a trick to get it to work in FC1 with the 2.4
kernel?

Installing Fedora Outside First 4 GB
by Holden McGroin
Hi!
A friend told me that it wasn't possible to install Linux outside of the
first 4 Gb on the disk. Does anyone know if this is true or not? They
have a hard disk of 20 Gb and have Windows 2000 installed on the first
10 Gb of the disk, with the remainder unpartitioned. Ideally, they'd
just like to know if it's possible before they try to install it. Are
there any limitations on where you can install Fedora on the disk
(assuming there's enough free space to hold Fedora)?
Cheers,
Holden

Sound problems
by Davy Obdam
Hello people,
I have some problems with sound on my system. I use gnome. When i try to
play a DVD movie or listen to a mp3 or cd *often* the sound doesn't
work. i have enabled "Enabled sound server startup" in Preferences ->
Sound. Then my sound was working yesterday, but just today it didnt work
anymore. Checking to see if the sound server is running with "ps -A |
grep esd" in the terminal revealed that this server is running. Stil my
sound doesnt work, sometimes when i try mplayer to play a dvd it says
that aRts is not running, but isn`t this for kde? I use gnome and at the
moment dont have kde installed. And what is Alsa? Do i need to install
either aRts or Alsa? Any help here would be appreciated.
I wish you all a happy and healthy 2004!!
Best regards,
Davy Obdam

usb flash disk?
by Tom Diehl
Hi all,
Does anyone know the magic incantation that I need to put into
/etc/modules.conf to get the usb-storage to load automagically
when I plug it in? If I do modprobe usb-storage it gets detected
as sda. I just cannot seem to get it to load automatically.

Okay, I'm simple minded enough to be confused. I just read the MySQL
statement about their version being under the GPL. I just read the PHP
license that comes with the most current version of the production
software (4.3.4).
I'm being asked to recommend a Linux platform for a MySQL/Apache/PHP
server. I see no reason that I as a consultant cannot build, for a
commercial client, a Fedora/MySQL 4/PHP 4 machine.
Am I missing something? (Besides most of my brain cells....)
ciao!
