Sound issues
by Christopher D. Stover
I'm having some really strange sound issues. I use Rhythmbox to listen to mp3s and radio stations. After a while, maybe 20-30 min, the music will just stop. I'll try to play another song or another radio station and I'll hear a second or so of music, then a pause then a split second and nothing else. During this time, the elapsed time for the song stays at 0:00. I've figured out that if I type pulseaudio -k I get the following:
[Chris@localhost ~]$ pulseaudio -k
I: caps.c: Limited capabilities successfully to CAP_SYS_NICE.
I: caps.c: Dropping root priviliges.
I: caps.c: Limited capabilities successfully to CAP_SYS_NICE.
N: main.c: Called SUID root and real-time/high-priority scheduling was requested in the configuration. However, we lack the necessary priviliges:
N: main.c: We are not in group 'pulse-rt' and PolicyKit refuse to grant us priviliges. Dropping SUID again.
N: main.c: For enabling real-time scheduling please acquire the appropriate PolicyKit priviliges, or become a member of 'pulse-rt', or increase the RLIMIT_NICE/RLIMIT_RTPRIO resource limits for this user.
W: main.c: High-priority scheduling enabled in configuration but not allowed by policy.
I then start VLC, play an mp3 and I get all the distorted sound that people have been talking about but it plays. I got this on the command line from VLC which looks pulseaudio related:
I: caps.c: Limited capabilities successfully to CAP_SYS_NICE.
I: caps.c: Dropping root priviliges.
I: caps.c: Limited capabilities successfully to CAP_SYS_NICE.
Finally, if I close VLC and open Rhythmbox, I can miraculously listen to the radio and mp3s!

NetworkManager-openvpn issues
by Patrick Lists
Hi,
I'm testing NetworkManager (0.7.0-0.11.svn4175) with the openvpn plugin
(0.7.0-16.svn4175) against openvpn (2.1-0.27.rc9.el5). I see a couple of
problems.
Problem #1:
On the openvpn server side in /etc/openvpn/server.conf I have the
following line:
push "dhcp-option SEARCH vpn.test.local"
with the goal to get on the client side added by NetworkManager in
/etc/resolv.conf:
search test.local
search vpn.test.local
nameserver 192.168.1.1 <-- is the ip of the dns on the openvpn box
When I setup the VPN connection from NetworkManager than the line
"search vpn.test.local" is not added to /etc/resolv.conf on the client.
NetworkManager only adds:
search test.local
nameserver 192.168.1.1
Problem #2:
When I close the VPN connection, the following lines are not removed
from /etc/resolv.conf on the client side:
search test.local
nameserver 192.168.1.1
Problem #3
Manually added routes in the VPN config in NetworkManager (or in the
vpnc config) are not saved.
Anyone seen any of these issues before? Known? Bugzilla them?
Thanks,
Patrick

X will not start if press ESC at boot process
by Wheelz
Hi,
My boot parameter is "rhgb vga=0x318 quiet", my video card is NVIDIA
Quadro NVS 140M(using driver from rpmfusion, akmod-nvidia),
system is fedora 10 rawhide updated to Oct. 18,
During the boot process, after the "fedora" flash showed up, just wait
two or three seconds, then press ESC, the X will not start up.
if I don't press ESC during the boot, the X can start normally.
And another strange thing, if I disable NVIDIA driver(by uninstall rpms),
and use the nv driver. whatever I input by keyboard will also be given to
the system console, including the password I entered in gdm. If I press
Ctrl+C in a gnome terminal,the X will restart.

dep failures: update after f8-kdelive -> f9 cd's
by Jerry Amundson
Not bz'd yet as I cannot recreate until I run lengthy installs on slow laptop:
1. install f8 to hard disk from KDE live CD
2. boot/upgrade using f9 cd's
3. yum command/desktop fails due to unsolved dep for kdebindings
4. yum --skip-broken --exclude=kdebindings update then succeeds, and
of course pulls in updates-newkey. (cctrp, commoncpp2, and twinkle
were skipped)
5. yum update then proceeds normally
Oddball mirror maybe? (mirror.anl.gov)
Number 4. also pulls in 50 packages. Wasn't the idea to just have
fedora-release, then pull everything thereafter from updates-newkey?
sleepily,
jerry

screen full of garbage on Xorg start
by Adam Pribyl
Fedora 10 tries now to have a nice boot with plymouth and KMS,
however at least for me on nvidia and intel, when Xorg is started, I
either see screen full of garbage, or old video memory content, until GDM
starts with this nice fade in effect. But few seconds with this
garbage in between plymouth and and gdm start is really disturbing..
How to avoid it?

f10beta frozen screen of death
by David L
I have two different f10beta systems that intermittently hang. They
appear completely
frozen. The X screen freezes, the mouse pointer is visible but
doesn't move. The
keyboard lock lights are unaffected by pressing the lock buttons.
REISUB doesn't work
(or at least I don't think it does... I might have pressed the wrong
keys). This problem did
not happen in f9 and it happens every few hours of use in f10beta
(updated yesterday).
The systems share little in common other than being x86's. One of
them is one of
those original Via Lindows boxes Walmart sold several years ago. The other is a
Dell Precision 380 with ATI video.
Is there any productive information I can provide on this problem?
Cheers,
David
