kernel nfsd error
by Skunk Worx
We've been running tests using our "ion" driver and card. That's where
the "ion" module comes from.
Things have been going well, expect today this came up. It's been a few
days of NFS mounts/umounts on and off, then this.
Not sure how much good it does posting the text when our module is
inserted into the kernel.

Sound and F10 release
by Antonio M
I wonder whether for the official release of F10 I will get a decent
sound system on my boxes....pulseaudio seems a problem, not an asset.

XO: Snap2, i686 LIve
by Bryan Kearney
I downloaded the i686 Live image this morning (Mon, 20 october).. and
the latest ./livecd-iso-to-disk.sh script from Jeremy's fedora page. I
built the card with the command line below.
./livecd-iso-to-disk.sh --noverify --reset-mbr --xo --overlay-size-mb
512 --swap-size-mb 512
Fedora-10-Snap2-i686-Live/F10-Snap2-i686-Live.iso /dev/sdb1
The blue plymouth bar seems quicker, but I can not get a login screen.
Are other folks having issues?

Network not starting after installation.
by A.J. Werkman`
When I install a really basic system without any additional packages,
NetwerkManager is not installed. The network service is installed, but
not active. So after booting the network does not come up.
I would expect that the network service is started by default if
NetworkManager is not installed on the system.
Regards, Koos.

Suspend/resume problems with kernel 2.6.27-3.fc10 and 2.6.27-13.fc10 (works in kernel-2.6.27-0.398.rc9.fc10)
by MartinG
With the latest kernels kernel-2.6.27-3.fc10.i686 and
kernel-2.6.27-13.fc10.i686, my
Dell Latitude X1 (Intel i915 graphics) does no longer wake up properly
after suspend:
All I can see is the graphical mouse pointer on a black background,
and the keyboard
does not seem to work (caps lock does not toggle the caps lock led).
So, this might be related to the keyboard driver not resuming after suspend,
or to some modeset changes in xorg.
Everything seems to work just fine if I instead boot
kernel-2.6.27-0.398.rc9.fc10.i686.
Smolt profile:
http://www.smolts.org/client/show/pub_01507560-2bed-4c14-94a5-c72964bb4b84
I have a Intel Corporation Mobile 915GM/PM/GMS/910GML graphics card, and use
the "intel" driver in /etc/X11/xorg.conf. In my grub.conf I do not
have any modeset
magic, as that broke X in earlier rawhide updates. Maybe this has changed now
- in that case, what would be the appropriate kernel parameters?
I am using KDE 4 with compiz-fusion and have the following lines in my
xorg.conf:
Option "AccelMethod" "XAA" # not EXA
Option "XAANoOffscreenPixmaps" "true"
Which makes X work "pretty well". I do get a lot of errors like
X Error: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter) 3
Major opcode: 20 (X_GetProperty)
Resource id: 0x4a25e5f
in my ~/.xsession-errors.
Below is what /var/log/messages says when I resume in
kernel-2.6.27-3 and am forced to press the powerbutton (pressed once,
resulting in safe powerdown,
suspending 16:53:33, resuming 19:44:13 and pressing powerbutton at
19:45:11 I think)
I'd be happy to provide more details, please let me know.

Laptop locks up on F10 beta
by Chris
Hi test list,
I'm having big problems with F10 beta in that it causes my laptop to lock up.
I installed from the Live CD as I read that there were problems
installing from the normal installation media. After installing, the
first problem I encountered was that the initial welcome screens
(where you create a user, set date and time etc...) were not displayed
correctly in that the resolution was incorrect and the Back/Forward
buttons were off the screen so I could not find where to click them. I
resolved this by adding the "nomodeset" option to the kernel boot
args.
After that, the screen went black and the system locked up, I couldn't
get to a command line, caps lock didn't work. I rebooted with default
kernel args and it came up OK. Now I can log in, connect to a wireless
network and do most things but there seem to be some serious issues
with gnome or X. If I start gnome-terminal it works fine but if I try
to resize a window, the system locks up again.
Things get even worse if I try to update to the latest rawhide. If I
do so, the system fails to boot. The loading screen is shown with the
animated infinity symbol but then the animation freezes and I can't do
anything. I think it gets quite a long way through the boot before
failing. I was also finding that Escape wasn't showing me the boot
process so I don't know where it failed.
I've since re-installed the F10 beta so that I could upload my smolt
profile for your information. It is here:
http://www.smolts.org/client/show/pub_e4a528ee-3a0a-47fd-8687-51b37f5382b0
Any thought about how I can go about figuring out what the problem is?
The fact that it reliably freezes when I resize a window suggests an X
or gnome problem. I might try installing xfce now to see if I have the
same problems with a different window manager.
Ah, some more information, Fedora 7 used to work fine on my laptop but
I never managed to get F8 or F9 working. The symptoms were similar in
that lockups occurred but they were usually before I could even log in
to a desktop manager.
Thanks, Chris.

F10 finally mostly working on ThinkPad T400
by Per Bothner
I finally this weekend got F10 working on my ThinkPad T400 laptop.
(This has the new Centrino 2 chipset and Cantiga graphics.)
Yeah! I still have Ubuntu on another partition, but I hope I
can mostly use Fedora from now on.
Compiz works, as does wireless. However, neither suspend
or hibernate works. One report suggests compiz may be the
reason suspend/hibernate don't work; so I'll experiment some more.
What I did was take the latest preupgrade (from bzr), make and
make install that. After running preupgrade, I had to boot
in text mode, which finally worked (after some display errors
in text mode) - and surprisingly I ended up with a working X.

XO: Live and /tmp
by Nifty Fedora Mitch
With the F10-Snap1-i686-Live image I see
that /tmp is tmpfs which has negative impact on
RAM.
Does it make sense to add a modest swap space partition
to the flash SD card and build the image to test
for and use it?
In the common LiveCD case there will be four to ten times
as much RAM as the XO has so using RAM for virtual /tmp
seems problematic to me.
Also I see:
