KMail Links + Firefox Browser
by Robert Couture
Hello ...
I discovered quite by accident that there is a problem with links in KMail &
FireFox when I recently had trouble with Evolution.
If I click on a link in a mail message when the browser loads all images are
broken as well as all referneces to ccs files, and other resources because
the URI is something like:
file:///var/tmp/kdecache-fido/krun/27670.0.fedora.php
This only happens with Firefox. Mozilla & Konquerer show the proper URI (in
this case):
http://i2o.shadowconnect.com/fedora.php
Has anyone else experienced this? If so has it been bugzilla'd and where
should itr be reported, Redhat or upstream?
Thanks.
Rob.

FC3 box brings lan to its knees
by Marc McAllister
Hi all,
New person to the list but a long time RH\FC user.
My setup:
ADSL modem/router
|
5-port switch
|
-------------------------
| | |
XP box FC2 box FC3 x86_64 box (AMD64)
The FC3 Test 3 box used to be running 2003 Server and it worked fine, I have
used exactly the same network settings as before.
I installed FC3 last night, it seemed to install fine. When I boot it everything
is fine, but when I try to browse the net or ping another machine it fails and
then causes the rest of the lan to fail too (not able to browse net, log into
the router, ping etc). If/when I take the FC3 machine offline everything
returns to normal on the lan and the other machines can browse the net etc.
I woke up this morning and thought it may have been a SMB issue, but I booted
the FC3 machine and checked, SMB wasn't running and the symptoms are still the
same.
Does anyone have any ideas, please?
Regards,
Marc

It was reported yesterday that the RAWHIDE version of udev (039-8) eats /dev/cdrom. If you are running udev-039-8 then you need to up to -10 (which did *not* come out of the build system today :-( or back to -6.

Re: apache problem?
by Daniel Segall
I too am having trouble with this. I attempted the command below, and got
nothing but a bunch of "Operation not supported" errors. In my
environment, we are using NIS, with NFS mounted /home, so I'm guessing
this has something to do with it? Is there a way around this,, or does
anyone have any other suggestions?
Thanks,

vsftpd and recent kernels including 667
by Janina Sajka
Just wondering whether others are still experiencing a broken vsftpd?
I don't recall exactly when it stopped working, but it was a few kernels
back. I'm running x86_64, in case that matters.

Something very strange is happening...
by Paul F. Johnson
Hi,
I'm using FC3t3 which is updated daily. I'm also using the current
kernel version.
I decided to continue archiving my old collection of CDs this morning
and as always, fired up grip. It reported that /dev/cdrom was not a
valid device any more (it is). It also didn't like /media/cdrom as a
device name.
I tried the two other devices with both grip and gnome-cdplayer with /
dev/cdromx (x = nothing, 1 or 2) and whatever they are registered with
in /media - nothing doing.
I don't normally reset after an update of udev - should I have done
that? Normally though, it's not required.
Possibly udev related is another problem. On Tuesday, I installed a new
floppy drive which also has on it a SD card reader, microdrive reader
and another reader which slips my memory for the moment. The floppy part
works fine, the others aren't recognised. This is read via a lead which
goes from the drive to a socket on the motherboard where a backplane USB
plugs in. /sbin/lsusb isn't showing anything. The device is a Mitsumi
drive. I've noticed in /media that I have floppy and floppy(2) icons.
floppy is dead, floppy(2) works. Shouldn't gnomevfs have just ditched
the original floppy icon and floppy(2) be called floppy?
I did do a reset so the new drive and other bits would be picked up.
Any ideas on either of these?

Fantastic. Cheers.
Where was this announcement? I must have gone wild with the delete key

RE: kernel headers vmware
by Brian Callahan
Thanks Paul,
Great HELP !!!
VMware 4.0
I didn't know I could just point it at the /lib/modules dir. I have
always used the source I need to get up with the "new" way of doing
things.
I tried pointing it to /lib/modules and I get :
What is the location of the directory of C header files that match your
running
kernel? [/usr/src/linux/include] /lib/modules/2.6.8-1.541/build/include/
The kernel defined by this directory of header files does not have the
same
address space size as your running kernel.
I tried going to RC5 .667 but I run into the NVidia module build
problem. I will try again- I want to be at the closest relaes to the
final when it comes out so I don't have to re-install.

kernel headers vmware
by Brian Callahan
OK I know this has probably been asked a hundred times and I should be
searching the archives but that would take me a while to get caught up
with all these changes in FC3T3. I have been very used to doing things
the old 2.4 way like kernel-source-- anyway
I am trying to install VMware 4 on FC3T3 and it can't find the header
files
"What is the location of the directory of C header files that match your
running
kernel? [/usr/src/linux/include] /usr/src/linux
The path "/usr/src/linux" is an existing directory, but it does not
contain at
least one of these directories "linux", "asm", "net" as expected."
I am running 2.6.8-1.541 #1 Wed Sep 1 18:01:20 EDT 2004 i686 athlon i386
GNU/Linux
I have built the kernel src src.rpm with rpmbuild -bp --target=i686
kernel-2.6.spec
then I did a symlink /usr/src/linux >
/usr/src/redhat/BUILD/kernel-2.6.8/linux-2.6.8/
Anyway what am I doing wrong -- do I still need the source to build
vmware and NVidia drivers or is there a headers package ?
Any help would be GREAT !!
