dual install results, artheros drivers, touchpad on a toshiba satellite p35 s609
by Paul
I just set up FC3t3 on a Toshiba p35 s609 - it went well!
I set it up as a dual boot with the oem WinXP Home SP2 and used knoppix to
resize the partition and then installed FC3. NO disk geometry problems!! I
didn't use any of the workarounds that were necessary with fc2, and the
install was flawless.
Now I only have a couple minor problems to work through. One, is the
convoluted process that I am finding to install drivers for artheros wifi -
which I have gone through twice now without success. I know its a longshot,
but has anyone had success with these drivers on fc3?
Also, the install failed to recognize the touchpad which windows reports to
be an "alps pointing device" which is a touchpad and 2 buttons (no "stick.")
It is doing well with a wireless usb mouse, though.
I figured I would have some problems along these lines on such a new device
(released in July I believe). More than anything I am SO GLAD that the disk
geometry bug seems to have been fixed. Good work!
If anyone has any advice on the atheros/madwifi problem or the touchpad I
would love to hear from you.

Where are the Konqueror address drop downs stored ?
by Kim Lux
I use Konqueror and for the most part I really like it.
One thing I hate is that my address drop down list gets messed up with
in correct addresses I type in, etc. For example, if I type in
www.gogle.com, it seems to stay in there for about 2 months. During that
time I usually accidentally activate it 3 times, further extending its
life.
Where are these things stored and is there an easy way to remove them ?

new rawhide gtk breaks openoffice
by Bill Huizinga
I'm seeing a problem with the new -5 build of gtk2/gtk2-devel and
openoffice 1.1.2-10.
I have two documents (company sensitive, so I can't give them for bug
verification; sorry), one small and one large, both in .sxw format (but
they were both originally imported as .doc). If I open the small one
using the recent files option, and the large one using the recent files
option, I get the attached crash (output by bug-buddy and less than
totally useful without the debug info). This is 100% repeatable.
I believe this to be a gtk problem because it goes away if I downgrade
back to the -4 builds.
I'd create a Bugzilla entry for it, but I can't figure out a clean case
(ie, not requiring my two oddball documents) which will cause the
problem.

Evolution weirdness
by thomas cameron
All -
Using FC3 RC5 (installed from the iso images at
http://testing.fedora.redhat.com/tree/i386/iso/). My machine is a dual
Xeon 1GHz with a gig of memory and Ultra160 disks - relatively snappy
machine. My mail server is on my local network here at home. I am
running evolution-2.0.2-3. I get my mail via IMAP.
I notice that often when I open a message Evolution takes several
seconds (sometimes as many as 10-15) to display it. I also notice that
the mail server hard drive light stays lit during this delay. It seems
like somehow Evolution is re-indexing the folder or something for every
message opened. The more messages in the IMAP folder, the longer the
delay.
I don't recall this behavior in older versions of Evolution (1.4 or 2).
Any ideas how to make this stop?

scrollbar corruption
by Michael Schwendt
KDE with FC3 RC5
Attached image shows what I see in e.g. Firefox, Mozilla, gqview. The
bottom line of the draggable area of a vertical scrollbar is corrupted
and filled with garbage when I move the mouse over it. The garbage
varies with time, almost like a structure in memory is copied. It's
fully reproducible.

keyboard and mouse stop working after starting X
by oliver frommel
Hello,
after several successful upgrades to RC5 I am having some problems
with keyboard and mouse on another machine. On boot everything
works fine, both deviced get detected properly:
input: ImExPS/2 Logitech Explorer Mouse on isa0060/serio1
input: AT Translated Set 2 keyboard on isa0060/serio0
When I try to start X (Nvidia board) the machine seems to
lock up. However it just seems to lose control over keyboard
and mouse.
The X server says:
(EE) Mouse0: cannot open input device
(EE) PreInit failed for input device "Mouse0"
Of course the device that's configured in xorg.conf
doesn't exist:
Identifier "Mouse0"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2"
Option "Device" "/dev/psaux"
Isn't udev supposed to take care for that?
Or do I really have to supply the strange device names
from above in the X config?
Additionally mouse and keyboard stopped working in
the console, too.
thanks for your help

Corrupted System
by Andrew Choens
Hi Everyone,
I've got a complicated problem. I keep yum pointed at development. I
updated my system via yum and then things went crazy. The system
started off as a FC3 T2(2.91) system running on a Toshiba laptop.
Now when I boot, X won't work and rhgb goes crazy. I can get to a
useful command prompt by editing my kernel arguments, although rhgb
tries to start if it's listed in the kernel argument or not. I can
boot to single and then init 3 to get the network up and running.
Booting straight to 3 doesn't work. It makes the machine go crazy and
won't let you log in.
I tried to roll-back my X installation using yum's cache, but when I try
to use rpm, I am told that my ELF headers are invalid in
/usr/lib/libpopt.so.0
So, what can I do to get this computer running again? I'm downloading
2.92 installation CD's now. I don't know if this will help or not, but
it's the only thing I can think of. I seem to have basic bash
capability, but most things beyond that gives me the error above about
my ELF headers.
Ideas, comments, and suggestions are encouraged.
Thanks

Recognising Partitions
by david
Hi,
This is my first mail so please excuse me if I do something wrong (and
let me know so I can do it right next time).
I installed FC3T3 on my Sony Laptop and found to my delight that it
recognised the other partitions on my hard drive including Fat32 and
NTFS partitions. (I run Windows 2000 from one of them). It also mounted
the Fat32 ones for me and just identified the NTFS ones giving me a
message that they were not supported even for read only.
I have used up2date to update both kernel and software over the last
week or so (now up to kernel 649).
I have just noticed that the automatic recognition and mounting no
longer happens - though I can of course mount them manually or
automatically so long as I enter the appropriate lines in fstab.
Did this automatic facility disappear on purpose or by accident, and is
there some way I can get it to start again without having to manually
add things to fstab?

possible bug in diskdruid FC3 latest RC
by David Jansen
I just downloaded the current FC3 release candidate and started an
install on a machine on which I do a lot of testing.
When choosing to amnually partition the disk, I was presented with a
list in which the space occupied by hda1 (an ntfs partition) was also
listed as Free space. I have put a screenshot on
http://www.strw.leidenuniv.nl/~jansen/temp/diskdruid-bug.png
Ignoring this free space of course left my windows partition alive but I
think it is potentially dangerous to report this space as free. Is this
a bug? I am certain FC3test3 and earlier didn't show the space occupied
by windows to be free.
I haven't dared to test the automatic partitioning yet, after all, it
may automatically use this "free" space.
Should I file a bugzilla report about this?

FC3 RC3 test results
by Timothy Sandel
I have been using FC3 RC3 on a MP2000 and a Winbook X4 for about a week
now and both have been nearly flawless. I have had to open a couple of
bugzillas for very minor problems.
Great work folks! I would imagine the Nov 8 release date is right on.
