It's possible that the OP's scanner simply isn't listed in
/etc/udev/rules.d/60-libsane.rules.
Hmmm the HP 6300C is there and I just tried it again and now the scanner
is listed when i start up Kooka as a normal user. Was this a recent
change to udev ? Or sane ?
